Applicants from traditionally underrepresented populations including women, racial and ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.</p> <p>DEFINITION</p> <p>Under the direct supervision of the Engagement and Visitor Services Manager and general supervision from full-time Park Rangers, incumbents in this classification are responsible for visitor services, public contact, grounds and facility maintenance in Dane County Parks. Incumbents will also assist with the oversight of LTE County Park Attendants.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES</p> <p>Responsible for visitor services such as user registrations for camping, boat launches, trails and other required permits. Oversees LTE County Park Attendants in the absence of a full-time Park Ranger. Provides information and assistance to the public. Works under the guidance of a full-time Park Ranger to identify visitor complaints and user conflicts and maintains accurate records for documenting complaints and conflicts. Issues warning tickets for park ordinance violations. Assists with office work including answering phones, making camping and shelter reservations and permit sales. Assists with oversight and maintains the work unit grounds and facilities to include mowing, refuse collection, and cleaning restroom and shower buildings. Works varying schedules including nights, weekends and holidays from April - October.</p> <p>Education, Training and Experience:</p> <p>High School Diploma/GED, or equivalent. Preference will be given to individuals who have previously worked in a park/recreational environment.</p> <p>Certifications/Licenses:</p> <p>Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire. Must have a valid driver's license.</p> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <p>Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Final candidate(s) will be subject to passing a thorough driving record background check. Completion of the Wisconsin ATV/OHM Safety Course preferred. Also refer to the "Physical and Environmental Work Requirements" section below.</p> <p>For Bilingual Positions:</p> <ul> <li>Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.). </li><li>Applicants being considered for bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process prior to employment. This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job. </li><li>If applicable, individuals may confirm with the Employee Relations Division whether results of bilingual language certifications/ examinations they currently hold qualify them for the position's bilingual designation. </li></ul> <p>Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Ability to do manual labor, including repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting. Ability to string trim for four (4) hours at a time. Work will be primarily outdoors in varying terrains in harsh temperature conditions. Must be able to perform heavy labor such as moving picnic tables and trashcans in rough and uneven terrain.</p> <p>Ability to communicate tactfully with the public and project a positive image. Ability to work independently from oral and written directions. Ability to make decisions and handle stressful situations. Ability to organize work plans and direct the work of others. Knowledge in the areas of park operations including grounds and building maintenance. Ability to operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools that includes light and heavy duty vehicles and trailers, commercial mowers and various hand and power tools.</p>
