Contract</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>The Elementary Digital Literacy Specialist plays a vital role in fostering digital fluency, research skills, and a lifelong love of reading among students. This educator serves as both a teacher and steward of the library media center, guiding students in developing the skills needed to thrive in a digital, information-rich world. In addition to providing high-quality instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) standards, the specialist curates and maintains a diverse, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate library collection and ensures the physical library space remains a welcoming, engaging environment for all learners.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Instructional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Design and deliver engaging, K-6 digital literacy lessons that integrate:</p> </li><li> <p>Massachusetts DLCS standards</p> </li><li> <p>Research and information literacy skills</p> </li><li> <p>Safe, responsible, and ethical technology use</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate digital tools and research-based projects into core subject areas</p> </li><li> <p>Promote reading for pleasure and academic growth through read-alouds, book talks, and literacy enrichment programs</p> </li><li> <p>Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities</p> </li></ul> <p>Library and Media Center Oversight</p> <ul> <li> <p>Curate and maintain a balanced, inclusive, and age-appropriate library collection that reflects student interests, identities, and instructional needs</p> </li><li> <p>In partnership with volunteers, manage the physical library space to ensure it is organized, flexible, and conducive to learning styles</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee library circulation, budgeting, inventory, and weeding processes</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a welcoming atmosphere that fosters curiosity, exploration, and a love of reading</p> </li></ul> <p>Leadership and Collaboration</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serve as a digital literacy and library resource for teachers, students, and families</p> </li><li> <p>Provide professional learning and support to staff on integrating digital tools and media literacy into instruction</p> </li><li> <p>Stay current on emerging technologies, children's literature, and best practices in library media instruction</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure compliance with copyright laws and responsible digital citizenship policies</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Valid Massachusetts DESE license as a Library Teacher or Digital Literacy/Computer Science</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in elementary educational settings and knowledge of child development</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated expertise in children's literature, digital tools, and instructional practices that support diverse learners</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices</p> </li></ul> <p>Application Procedure: Apply online</p> <p>You can watch our educators talk about working at Acton-Boxborough here: https://youtu.be/TenOhRXzESE</p> <p>You can learn more working at Acton-Boxborough here: https://sites.google.com/abschools.org/joinactonboxborough/home</p> <p>We believe that our students deserve to learn from educators who reflect their backgrounds and life experiences, and we want our staff to reflect the wide range of student identities we seek to serve.
