<p>Position Title: Special Education Teacher - Behavior Support Specialist</p> <p>Location: North Harrison Elementary Schools</p> <p>Reports To: Principal</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time (School Year Position)</p> <p>Start Date: January 5, 2026</p> <p>North Harrison Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education</p> <p>Teacher - Behavior Support Specialist to join our team. This individual will provide direct</p> <p>support and intervention for students with behavioral and social-emotional needs, collaborate</p> <p>with staff to implement behavior intervention plans, and promote positive behavioral outcomes</p> <p>for all students. While a valid Indiana teaching license in special education is preferred, we will</p> <p>also consider candidates with relevant behavioral certifications or extensive experience in</p> <p>applied behavior analysis, behavior intervention, or related fields.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities</p> <p>? Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with</p> <p>disabilities, focusing on behavioral and emotional regulation goals.</p> <p>? Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and design effective behavior</p> <p>intervention plans (BIPs).</p> <p>? Provide direct instruction and support to students with significant behavioral needs in</p> <p>both individual and small-group settings.</p> <p>? Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional assistants, counselors, and</p> <p>administrators to promote inclusive practices and consistent behavior supports.</p> <p>? Monitor and document student progress through data collection and analysis.</p> <p>? Support staff in implementing proactive classroom management strategies and</p> <p>evidence-based behavior interventions.</p> <p>? Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and support teams to ensure consistency</p> <p>between home and school environments.</p> <p>? Participate as an active member of the school's MTSS/RTI and special education teams.</p> <p>? Maintain compliance with all state and federal special education laws and documentation</p> <p>requirements.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <p>? Bachelor's degree in special education, psychology, or a related field.</p> <p>? Experience working with students who have behavioral or emotional challenges.</p> <p>? Strong understanding of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).</p> <p>? Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.</p> <p>Preferred:</p> <p>? Valid Indiana teaching license in Special Education (Mild Interventions, Intense</p> <p>Interventions, or equivalent).</p> <p>? Certification or training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Registered Behavior</p> <p>Technician (RBT), or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).</p> <p>? Experience in developing and implementing functional behavior assessments and</p> <p>behavior intervention plans.</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This position involves working in a school setting with students in grades K-5. The successful</p> <p>candidate will work collaboratively with staff and families to create a supportive, structured, and</p> <p>inclusive learning environment that fosters academic and social success.</p> <p>Compensation</p> <p>Commensurate with education, certification, and experience in accordance with the North</p> <p>Harrison Community Schools salary schedule.</p> <p>Application Process</p> <p>Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and references to</p> <p>asmith@nhcs.k12.in.us.
