<p>DESCRIPTION</p> <p>The Fire Department Instructor - Medic is responsible for providing personnel with mandated training and instruction, which involves determining the specific training needs of departmental personnel, developing course content, administering courses, and evaluating student performance. The employee is directly accountable to the Assistant Fire Chief of Medical Services or the Assistant Chief's designee and is subject to administrative supervision by the Fire Chief through the chain of command.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business. </li><li>Assists with quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/QI) processes related to medical care and documentation </li><li>Schedules, coordinates, and delivers medical training, including EMR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic certification/licensure renewals, continuing education, refresher courses, and other classes pertaining to medical services delivery. </li><li>Participates in assigned public speaking engagements about first aid, safety, CPR, and AED training. </li><li>Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations. </li><li>Enforces City and Departmental personnel policies, procedures, and regulations. </li><li>Learns and utilizes software systems and instructs personnel on their use. </li><li>Provides training and instruction to personnel as needed. </li><li>Works independently with minimal supervision. </li><li>Performs other related duties and special projects assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Requires constant walking or standing. </li><li>Involves regular exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force. </li></ul> <p>TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must meet all requirements for the firefighter job description. (See Supplemental Information below. Delivers presentations and training sessions; prepares original reports, training materials, and other written content using correct grammar, punctuation, and professional style. </li><li>Provides guidance and direction to others, making frequent decisions that impact colleagues, individuals, and the public relying on the service. Operates in a dynamic environment governed by rules and procedures yet often requires adaptation due to non-routine situations. </li><li>Engages in work that involves adherence to established systems and protocols, requiring consistent problem-solving and focused attention to ensure accuracy. Occasionally works under atypical pressure or challenging circumstances. </li><li>Performs additional duties asassigned. </li></ul> <p>PhysicalDemands:</p> <ul> <li>Frequently required to sit and talk, hear, and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. </li><li>Occasionally required to climb heights more than one hundred (100) feet; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on uneven surfaces and in confined spaces; and taste or smell. </li><li>Must regularly lift and/or move up toseventy-five (75) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move upto 175 pounds or larger with assistance. </li><li>In most cases, allphysical demandswill be encountered while wearing an additional fifty (50) pounds of structural firefighting gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). </li><li>Requires a visual minimum of 20/100 eacheye uncorrected and 20/30 each eye corrected and the abilitiesto distinguish colors. </li><li>Leads orhandles machines,tools, equipment, or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standardor in selecting appropriate items. </li><li>Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals; explosives; violence. </li></ul>
