<p>This is a hybrid position primarily based in New York City, but it may require travel to locations outside of NYC. The role involves a combination of onsite work with schools and district teams across various locations, including those outside of NYC, as well as days at Urban Assembly's central office in Manhattan's Financial District, and work from home.</p> <p>Salary Range: $112,750 - $128,125</p> <p>Our target start date is May 5, 2025. Special consideration will be given to candidates who apply by April 1, 2025. This position will remain open until filled.</p> <p>ABOUT US</p> <p>The Urban Assembly (UA) is a non-profit provider of school support solutions that boost school and student performance. Under the mission of advancing students' social and economic mobility by improving public education, the UA provides schools and districts with innovative data-driven, student-centered approaches to career and technical education, academics, social-emotional learning, and postsecondary access and success. The UA founded a network of unique, small public secondary schools throughout NYC. We acknowledge the historical barriers created by education systems to perpetuate the social inequities that keep students of color from accessing postsecondary and career opportunities - and commit to dismantling these barriers.</p> <p>ABOUT THE JOB</p> <p>Reporting to the Managing Director of Programs, the Director of Continuous Improvement Team will lead our newly repurposed team focused on driving whole school improvement across our partner schools. This role is pivotal in translating our organizational mission and values into actionable strategies that create high-impact, innovative schools collaborating to improve public education. The Continuous Improvement Team reinforces our UA mission and values in our schools, and is a standard bearer for "the UA way" in and across our schools. By combining the best in management techniques and education best practices, the Continuous Improvement Team helps school leaders articulate and operationalize their vision for excellence through a coherent set of systems, structures, processes and practices designed to facilitate continuous school improvement. Specifically, this team uses data, coaching, professional development and Network Improvement Communities and systems thinking to achieve systemic improvements that result in higher graduation and increased post secondary readiness rates at partner schools.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>The allocation of time and priority given to the responsibilities outlined in this job description are intended as guidelines and may vary based on organizational needs, priorities, and circumstances. This position requires adaptability, and its occupant may be asked to perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Lead Comprehensive School Improvement Initiatives (20-25%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Develop and lead the implementation of a research-based framework for whole school improvement, integrating Anthony Bryk's Essential Supports and other proven practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and oversee an annual comprehensive needs assessment process for partner schools.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead the creation of data-informed improvement plans for each partner school, addressing all essential supports.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and lead a data-driven process for aligning UA resources with school improvement goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure 90+% of partner schools meet or exceed their annual improvement targets.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure 80+% of partner schools report high satisfaction (8+ on a 5-point scale) with the UA's school improvement framework and support</p> </li></ul> <p>Provide Leadership Coaching and Support (25-30%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide high-level coaching to school principals and leadership teams on implementing improvement strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Focus coaching efforts on building leadership capacity to drive school-wide change.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish and facilitate Network Improvement Communities among school leaders.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and deliver targeted professional development for school leadership teams.</p> </li><li> <p>Meet goals around responsive leadership support.</p> </li></ul> <p>Lead Coordination of Cross-Program Support (10-15%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Lead the creation and oversee the implementation of a system to coordinate cross-disciplinary support.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure coherence and integration of various UA supports within each school's improvement plan.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead cross-team collaboration to deliver unified support across disciplines.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of integrated support strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate cross-team collaboration to deliver unified support across disciplines.</p> </li></ul> <p>Develop and Supervise a High-Performing Team (10-15%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Set vision and strategy for the Continuous Improvement Team, establishing clear lines of effort across team members.</p> </li><li> <p>Allocate resources effectively, including personnel and fiscal resources.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and facilitate ongoing professional learning for the team to build capacity in school improvement strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Foster strong working relationships within UA and with external partners.</p> </li></ul> <p>Build and Maintain Stakeholder Relationships (5-10%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with school leaders, district officials, and community partners.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and codify routines, rituals, and traditions that reinforce a common UA identity across all schools.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead and facilitate principal meetings, establishing a community of practice among school leaders.</p> </li></ul> <p>Drive Data-Informed Decision Making (10-15%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Establish robust systems for collecting, analyzing, and acting on school performance data.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the creation and dissemination of comprehensive school progress reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the UA data team to measure impact and continuously refine improvement strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Use data to inform the allocation and adjustment of UA program supports.</p> </li></ul> <p>Develop and Implement Frameworks (15-20%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Research and adapt best practices in organizing for instructional improvement at scale.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead collaboration with the UA team to integrate these frameworks into the overall school improvement approach.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the integration of these frameworks into the overall school improvement approach.</p> </li></ul> <p>Foster Innovation and Knowledge Sharing (5-10%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Lead the identification and codification of successful practices from high-performing schools in the network.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the creation and execution of mechanisms for schools to share innovative practices and learn from each other.</p> </li><li> <p>Guide the development of resources and tools to support school improvement efforts across the network and beyond.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate at least 4 major knowledge-sharing events (Network Improvement Community) annually with 90% attendance from partner schools.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure that 25% of partner schools successfully implement and document an innovative practice that is then shared across the network.</p> </li></ul> <p>The core competencies of an Urban Assembly staff member <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>7+ years of experience in education, including roles in instructional leadership, school administration, or district-level curriculum and instruction</p> </li><li> <p>Experience supervising and developing teams</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in coaching and developing school leaders</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated success in driving school improvement initiatives</p> </li><li> <p>Strong understanding of systems thinking and change management in educational contexts</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills</p> </li><li> <p>Outstanding communication and relationship-building abilities</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience working with urban school districts and diverse student populations</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with Anthony Bryk's work on Essential Supports for School Improvement</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of current educational policies and reform efforts in New York City and nationally</p> </li><li> <p>Experience coordinating multi-faceted support programs in schools</p> </li></ul> <p>COMPENSATION & BENEFITS</p> <p>This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $112,750 - $128,125.
