<p>Position Summary</p> <p>This position supports the Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection's recreational safety programs and is responsible for assisting, implementing, and maintaining facilities and relationships at the McMiller Sports Center in Eagle, WI. The position assists with safety program coordination, instruction, preparation, and maintenance of equipment and recruiting and training volunteer instructors in the DNR southeast region. This position also works closely with the DNR Shooting Range Program Specialist to monitor compliance with the McMiller lease agreement, range regulations, and to ensure adequate services are available to the public and all visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.</p> <p>50% Assist the safety education and outdoor skills program in the southeast region of Wisconsin with coordination of events and training for all safety programs (hunter education, boating, snowmobile, off-highway vehicle, bow hunting). Assist with logistics and attend volunteer instructor training workshops and appreciation events. Assist with maintenance of training aids and equipment. Assist R3 coordinators with R3 programs and events.</p> <p>25% Liaison with the lessee of the McMiller Sports Center regarding facility maintenance and operations and complaint resolution relative to the overall shooting and outdoor experience. This position will conduct periodic physical inspections of the facility and conduct inventory of DNR physical assets at the facility. The position will coordinate and schedule projects performed by outside contractors and provide oversight in obtaining necessary permits, approvals and contracts, and utilize the DNR development project system.</p> <p>20% Implement shooting range program policies, programs, procedures, and guidelines for the McMiller Sports Center facility. Ensure DNR and lessee compliance with the McMiller Sports Center lease in daily matters, consulting with the Shooting Range Program Specialist as needed. Ensure that range safety guidelines are clearly communicated and followed. Identify and promote recreational shooting opportunities and programs that may be provided at McMiller to encourage participation in hunting and shooting sports.</p> <p>5% Develop and implement annual budgets for the operation and management of the McMiller Sports Center and provide budget oversight for capital development projects identified in the strategic plan for the McMiller Sports Center. This includes coordinating project timelines and budget needs, monitoring capital development project spending, and tracking operations and management spending at the facility.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>This position pays between $21.66 per hour and in the Operations Program Associate classification in pay schedule and range 02-10. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.</p> <p>More about LTE positions:</p> <p>1) Offer a great opportunity to gain experience and learn about careers at the WI Department of Natural Resources.</p> <p>2) Provide opportunities for individuals to enhance their resumes with skills learned on the job.</p> <p>3) May accommodate flexibility for part-time or full-time work hours and seasonal schedules. If both LTE positions are at the same agency, the positions must be bona fide different positions. Each individual LTE position allows for maximum of 1039 hours in a twelve-month period.</p> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <p>1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.</p> <p>A Wisconsin resident is a person who:</p> <p>a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;</p> <p>b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;</p> <p>c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or</p> <p>d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c)." s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.</p> <p>2) Background Checks: The Department of Natural Resources conducts criminal background checks on final applicants prior to a job offer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:</p> <ul> <li>Have a valid driver's license </li><li>Be at least 18 years of age </li><li>Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience </li><li>Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years </li><li>Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>General knowledge of hunting and shooting sports to include working with partners, knowledge of the role of shooting sports in conservation of natural resources. </li><li>Must possess excellent interpersonal skills that foster relationships with constituents in a professional, courteous and friendly manner. </li><li>Demonstrates ability to work independently without close supervision. </li><li>Ability to develop, maintain and enhance relationships. </li><li>Ability to set priorities and possess strong organizational skills. </li><li>Ability to move equipment such as firearm sets, boxes, supplies, etc. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with Wisconsin DNR's outdoor skills safety programs, and fishing, hunting, trapping, and shooting recruitment programs. </li><li>General knowledge and experience with firearms, ammunition, safety standards and maintenance. </li><li>General knowledge of supervising safe shooting activities and range operation. </li><li>Experience with backing up and loading trailers of all sizes. </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Click the "Apply for Job" button and follow the directions.
