<p>Title: Grade 6 - ELA and Social Studies Teacher</p> <p>Location: Curtis Middle School</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>Position Summary: Ephraim Curtis Middle School is seeking a qualified 6th Grade Educator to teach ELA and Social Studies.</p> <p>ELA Key Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Align lessons to the Common Core curriculum standards in ELA; • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests; • Establish and communicate to students clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate; • Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations; • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of struggling learners and those needing additional challenges • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible; • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress; • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests; • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations; • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health; • Assign lessons and correct homework; • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students; • Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems; • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs; • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress; • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence; • Attend staff meetings, and serve on staff committees as required; • Complete other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Social Studies Key Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach middle school social studies curriculum as indicated in the SPS Learning Expectations for History and Social Studies document; • Embed the History Reading and Writing standards of the English Language Arts Curriculum Standards into social studies lessons; • Plan and implement engaging social studies lessons using a variety of effective research-based instructional strategies; • Differentiate lessons using strategies and materials that address a variety of academic, language, social, emotional, and physical abilities; • Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications as outlined in student learning plans (e.g. IEP, 504, BCAP, and ISSP); • Administer standards-based formative and summative assessments, including grade-level common assessments and use resulting data to inform instructional curricular decisions; • Establish and communicate to students clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; • Communicate with parents/guardians and students about student progress and needs; • Meet with team teachers, counselors, and administrators regularly to discuss student progress; • Maintain accurate and thorough student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations; • Follow all administration policies and rules governing students; • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competency; • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required; • Complete other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Classification: SEA Unit Position</p> <p>Work Year: 183 days (1.0 FTE)</p> <p>Salary: Commensurate with education and experience based on the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.</p> <p>Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance.</p> <p>All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.</p> <p>Deadline: Resumes will be reviewed upon receipt and the position will remain open until filled.</p>
