<p>Description</p> <p>Family Nurse Practitioner</p> <p>Jail Division</p> <p>2026 Pay Range: $60.76 - $87.54 per hour</p> <p>Under minimal supervision, provides professional medical midlevel care. Provides direct patient care in accordance with the statutory limitations for Midlevel Practitioners and may perform administrative support functions as required.</p> <p>Boulder County is a family-friendly workplace dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment for all employees. If the hiring manager selects you to advance in the hiring process, your attachments will then be shared with the hiring team.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Provides medical care to inmates including conducting exams, chronic care clinics and diagnostic testing </li><li>Provide patient education, specifically around issues related to medications and treatment adherence, and aftercare services. Document all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise and clear manner. </li><li>Evaluate patients for the need for a higher level of care, including hospitalization. If a patient is hospitalized, maintain contact with the hospital staff to ensure continuity of care. </li><li>Prescribes appropriate medications in accordance with pharmaceutical guidelines and standards of practice. </li><li>Orders initial and/or routine laboratory tests and follow-up on results, orders additional tests or initiates referral appointments with specialized caregivers. </li><li>Review Medical records, laboratory, x-ray and EKG results and intervene as medically indicated. </li><li>Evaluates practice in relation to professional standards, statutes, regulations, departmental policies, and standards of care. </li><li>Evaluates quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of nursing care provided. </li><li>Delivers care in a nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that preserves patients' rights and acts as a patient advocate. </li><li>Provide consultation to non-prescribing medical staff about diagnosis, treatment and/or the need for medication </li><li>Assures patient privacy before, during and after procedures. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Is knowledgeable and compliant with all regulatory standards, including specialty (i.e. Corrections) level requirements </li><li>Knowledge of major concepts, principles and theories related to drug, alcohol and medical disease processes. </li><li>Knowledge of individual and group dynamics and treatment methods to assist clients in achieving goals. </li><li>Skill in preparing written reports, medical records, and other documentation. </li><li>Ability to be involved actively in multidisciplinary teams relevant to quality improvement. </li><li>Ability to serve as a consultant to resolve/discuss ethical issues. </li><li>Ability to use computers and computer systems. </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION</p> <ul> <li>Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR. </li><li>Possession of a National Certification for Advanced Practice Clinical Nurse Specialty in Family Medicine. </li><li>Licensed by the Colorado Board of Nursing or Physicians with Prescriptive Authority. </li><li>DEA Buprenorphine X Waiver recommended. </li><li>All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Master of Science in Nursing degree or a Doctor of Nursing practice degree. </li><li>Typically, one-year experience in midlevel family medicine practice. </li><li>Three years prior family medicine practice experience is strongly preferred. </li></ul> <p>SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Must obtain and maintain security clearance with the Boulder County Jail/ Sheriff's Department </li><li>Must pass background investigation and drug testing </li><li>Must pass polygraph test </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Vision - Dual vision is not required. Single eye correctable vision is acceptable. Minimum peripheral vision for single vision is 900 on the ear side and 700 on the nose side. Frequently uses peripheral vision to observe and monitor multiple persons and activity. </li><li>Hearing - Dual hearing is required. When tested by use of an audiometric device, does not have an average hearing loss in the better ear greater than 40 decibels at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without a hearing aid when the audiometric device is calibrated to American National Standard. Medical staff are constantly required to listen to multiple audible inputs simultaneously such as portable radio conversations, telephone conversations, conversations with inmates or others, noises within the housing units. </li><li>Sense of Smell - Intact. Occasionally uses olfactory sense to detect illegal use of drugs or chemicals. Occasionally uses the olfactory sense to evaluate the presence of toxic vapors, smoke, and fuels. </li><li>Speech - Medical staff must have the ability to speak and understand English clearly within normal parameters. Constantly uses voice to communicate with other officers, professionals, prisoners, and the public in person and by telephone and two-way radio. Clear diction and audible volume is required. </li><li>Body Movement - Medical staff must have mobility of both arms and legs with the ability to move around the work area unassisted. Must be able to walk quickly and climb stairs. Must have the ability and range of flexibility to reach overhead, reach below knees, and to bend over or squat down to perform job functions. Must have the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time. </li></ul>
