The GS-09 MIT is required to perform a full range of complex diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures including atypical procedures for which there are no standard instructions or operating procedures. The incumbent has advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, as well as procedural equipment, supplies, and techniques.</p> <p>Cardiology Procedure Lab GS-09 MITs set up, operate, and troubleshoot equipment for all Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology, and Structural Heart procedures. Operation of the highly technical equipment includes monitoring, calibrating, and collecting data of physiologic changes during the procedures, while maintaining a sterile field and utilizing aseptic techniques as required in an operating room setting. They inject contrast and heparinized saline manually or with the aid of a mechanical contrast device to visualize anatomical structures during angiography procedures in accordance with physician orders. In addition, the technologists have further training and knowledge to provide radiological support by operating fluoroscopy equipment during the procedures.</p> <p>Cardiology Procedure Lab GS-9 MITs mentor and train lower graded technicians, nurses, nursing students, and cardiovascular technology students on invasive cardiology procedures. GS-9 MITs also write policies and standard operating procedures, and lead or assist with performance improvement and quality control activities.
