We are dedicated to protecting the state of South Carolina and we would love to have you as a member of our team!</p> <p>Science | Service | Sustainability</p> <p>Protect South Carolina's Waterways While Growing Your Engineering Career</p> <p>Join our Industrial Wastewater Permitting team in the Bureau of Water and apply your engineering expertise to protect public health and our state's waterways. In this role, you will review engineering designs, evaluate environmental data, and develop permit conditions that regulate how industries treat and discharge wastewater. Your work will directly support environmental compliance, safeguard our natural resources, and serve the citizens of South Carolina.</p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <ul> <li>Develop and issue permits for industrial wastewater discharges under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and No Discharge (ND) programs. </li><li>Review moderately complex engineering reports, plans, and specifications for industrial wastewater facilities and issue construction permits. </li><li>Determine General Permit coverage for qualifying discharges. </li><li>Hold conferences with industry representatives and consulting engineers to formulate permit conditions and resolve technical issues. </li><li>Collaborate with internal SCDES staff and external stakeholders to ensure complete and accurate permit documentation. </li><li>Provide clear technical information to the public, regulated facilities, and consulting engineers. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and supervisor. </li></ul> <p>What We're Looking For</p> <ul> <li>A detail-oriented engineer or environmental professional with strong problem-solving skills. </li><li>Ability to review, interpret and apply environmental regulations, policies, and guidance. </li><li>Strong communication skills for working with diverse stakeholders. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>A master's degree in engineering. </li><li>A bachelor's degree in engineering and one (1) year of experience in environmental engineering. </li><li>A bachelor's degree in engineering and two (2) years of experience as an engineer. </li></ul> <p>Your engineering degree must be accredited by EAC/ABET, CEAB, and Programs Recognized in the ABET "Washington Accord" Listings or you must provide an approved equivalency letter from The South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing & Regulation ( LLR).</p> <p>Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.</p> <p>Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application.
