<p>Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay).</p> <p>The Chief of Radiology Service provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the service to ensure achievement of the clinical, research, and education goals of the program. The incumbent reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Chief of Staff and the Medical Center Director.</p> <p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards.</p> <p>Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory</p> <p>CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)</p> <p>Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided</p> <p>Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting</p> <p>FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The responsibilities include hands on clinical work, oversight, and administration of all aspects of the service, including research, and guidance and training for residents and other trainees. Additionally, the incumbent is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff for administrative activities, clinical program activities, and overall compliance to VA, VHA, and VISN wide policies and procedures related to this service. This includes, but is not limited to the following along with other duties as assigned:</p> <p>Budget and Resource Management</p> <p>Participates in the annual budget estimate for operation of his/her Service. Assists in management of the formulation of the medical center budget, including allocation of funds and recommendations to top management regarding staffing requirements, cost effective technological advances, equipment, projects, and supplies. These budgetary recommendations are based on statistics, evidenced based practices and projections which indicate patient workload trends, and knowledge of VISN-wide goals and objectives for program development and management.</p> <p>Human Resources Management</p> <p>The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing a viable, cost-effective organization which manages positions within FTEE and budget. The position will have responsibility for personnel actions involving key subordinates and is responsible for effective labor/employee relations by coordinating with Human Resources. Responsible for identifying training needs for subordinate employees, for ensuring the competency of staff for their selected positions. The incumbent will also ensure that services delivered are consistent with customer service needs and standards.</p> <p>The operation of this medical center includes educational affiliations with The University of Michigan School of Medicine and other outside entities. The Service Chief will work closely with these entities in providing residents and trainees with the staff support necessary to integrate them into the medical center organization and its patient care programs. Sets guidelines or assists in decision making to resolve any issues which arise with these affiliations.</p> <p>Clinical</p> <p>Provides coverage commensurate with his/her time and area of specialization, providing direct patient care.</p> <p>Functions</p> <ul> <li>Patient Care 40% </li><li>Teaching 10% </li><li>Research variable </li><li>Administration 50% </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS</p> <p>The incumbent is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff, VAAAHS. The incumbent works independently; supervision is mainly advisory in nature. The incumbent provides first line supervision to several staff, including Administrative Officer and staff physicians.</p> <p>The incumbent is responsible for informing the Chief of Staff and/or the Medical Center Director of major problems and decisions in these areas.</p> <p>Visitors, and the general public is consistently courteous and cooperative in nature, and overall contributes to the effective operation of the case management program. Any failure in this area is limited, minor and has no significant adverse impact on the Service. He/she anticipates and avoids potential causes of conflict and activity and promotes cooperation among co-workers.</p> <p>The incumbent receives assignments of a general nature from the Chief of Staff and/or Medical Center Director. Subsequent findings and recommendations are used by the Chief of Staff and/or Medical Center Director as the basis for his/her consequent decision-making. Much of the incumbent's responsibilities are self-initiated, such as identifying and correcting problems, and identifying ways of improving the efficiency of the service.</p> <p>Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (hours to be discussed in interview)</p>
