<p>Lead Fiber Optic Technician- Albany, NY Region (Healthcare Facilities Support)</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>Lead Fiber Optic Technician is a senior-level field technician responsible for delivering advanced infrastructure support across several medical facilities in the Albany, NY region. This role leads on-site structured cabling, low-voltage systems installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and project execution while ensuring all work meets healthcare-grade reliability, compliance, and quality standards. Lead Fiber Optic Technician serves as a technical lead for field teams and acts as a primary liaison between hospital stakeholders, project managers, and client operations.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Leadership & Coordination</p> <ul> <li>Provide on-site leadership to infrastructure technicians, subcontractors, and manpower resources while ensuring adherence to project schedules, safety compliance, and quality standards. </li><li>Support the Operations Manager with team assessments, workload planning, and coordination of site-specific requirements across multiple medical locations. </li><li>Represent Client in customer meetings, communicating work progress, risks, and expectations clearly and professionally. </li></ul> <p>Infrastructure Installation & Maintenance</p> <ul> <li>Perform and lead installation, testing, service, and removal of structured cabling systems including Category 3/5/5e/6, fiber optic systems, coax, and other low-voltage technologies. </li><li>Install and maintain cable pathways, racks, cabinets, trays, conduits, and related communications infrastructure. </li><li>Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and document issues involving cabling infrastructure, connectivity, and equipment performance. </li></ul> <p>Healthcare Environment Support</p> <ul> <li>Conduct work in compliance with medical facility requirements, including infection-control protocols, restricted-access areas, and patient-safety standards. </li><li>Minimize service disruption by coordinating tasks around clinical schedules and sensitive healthcare operations. </li></ul> <p>Project Execution & Documentation</p> <ul> <li>Assist in project planning, scope management, and material control to ensure timely completion of project milestones. </li><li>Conduct site surveys and provide detailed documentation for engineering and project teams. </li><li>Complete all required closeout packages including test results, as-built drawings, photos, quality audits, and asset documentation. </li></ul> <p>Travel & Mobility</p> <ul> <li>Travel daily or as required between five regional medical facilities to provide service coverage, installation support, and emergency response when needed. </li><li>Transport tools, equipment, and materials necessary to complete assigned work. </li></ul> <p>Required Education & Experience</p> <ul> <li>Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent work experience in IT infrastructure, telecommunications, or low-voltage systems. </li><li>6+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure installation, structured cabling, field service, or site support roles. </li></ul> <p>Certifications & Technical Skills</p> <ul> <li>Preferred credentials: CNET CNCI, BICSI INST1, INSTC/INSTF, TECH, and manufacturer-specific certifications. </li><li>Advanced knowledge of BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, NEC, and relevant federal, state, and local standards. </li><li>Ability to install, terminate, and test a variety of low-voltage cabling types including copper, coaxial, and fiber. </li><li>Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents. </li><li>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights as required. </li></ul> <p>Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Technical Expertise & Analytical Thinking </li><li>Customer Focus & Professional Communication </li><li>Planning, Organization & Documentation </li><li>Collaboration, Team Leadership & Reliability </li><li>Adaptability in fast-paced healthcare environments </li><li>Safety and Risk Management </li></ul>
