<p>JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor</p> <p>CLASSIFICATION: Faculty</p> <p>DIVISION: Academic Affairs</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Music</p> <p>LOCATION: Main Campus</p> <p>FLSA STATUS: Exempt</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Chair, Department of Music</p> <p>SALARY: Per CBA</p> <p>OVERVIEW:</p> <p>Lincoln University (LU), a historically Black, regional, comprehensive, liberal arts university is</p> <p>one of the 17 state-related institutions within the Pennsylvania Higher Education System. The</p> <p>university enrolls over 2,000 students, employs more than 100 full-time faculty members, and</p> <p>offers more than 30 undergraduate programs, and selected graduate programs.</p> <p>Diversity is at the core of LU's history, mission, and values. We understand the value of</p> <p>diversifying our faculty and pursue that standard of excellence by focusing our recruitment efforts</p> <p>to attract candidates with rich and varied backgrounds, scholarship, and experience.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>Lincoln University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Music with an</p> <p>emphasis in Black/Africana Music Studies and/or African American music. The successful</p> <p>candidate will be a dynamic teacher of undergraduate students as well as a scholar with an</p> <p>ambitious research and publication agenda. The ideal candidate will show evidence of thoughtful</p> <p>intellectual engagement with Black/Africana/African American music. Candidates will be</p> <p>expected to teach four courses a semester and be expected to teach in-person courses ranging from</p> <p>enslavement to the present.</p> <p>The successful candidate will have a record of teaching at the University level, with an earned</p> <p>terminal degree as an ethnomusicologist with expertise in Black/Africana/African American</p> <p>Music Studies and with interests that align with social action and justice. The successful candidate</p> <p>will have the abilities and passion to teach Black American music and trace, as appropriate, its</p> <p>roots from cultures world-wide to the United States. The successful candidate will propose and</p> <p>teach music courses underneath the Black Studies concentration "Black Freedom Studies."</p> <p>The successful candidate will typically teach three undergraduate four credit courses per</p> <p>academic year. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop new courses and initiatives</p> <p>based on their academic expertise that benefit this institution leading to greater development of the</p> <p>Music Department and the newly proposed Africana Music major.</p> <p>All Full Time Faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in departmental and</p> <p>University activities and Service.</p> <p>The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D./Terminal Degree by the hire date.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The successful candidate will:</p> <p>. Offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered pedagogy utilizing up-to-date expertise</p> <p>in Music and the best pedagogical practices in Music.</p> <p>. Will have expertise in Black/Africana/African American Music. . Will teach a normal load, typically four courses in-person a semester, including general</p> <p>education classes and African American music from and actively mentor and advise</p> <p>students. . Will be a contributing member of departmental and university required meetings and</p> <p>initiatives including departmental meetings events, course and curriculum development,</p> <p>and university-wide initiatives.</p> <p>. Maintain active professional engagement and research, which are required for promotion</p> <p>and tenure consideration.</p> <p>. Will share the University's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogy</p> <p>and be prepared to join an active cohort of faculty who teach undergraduate courses and</p> <p>advise/mentor students.</p> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <p>. A Ph.D./Terminal degree in Ethnomusicology or other closely related field.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>. Evidence of 1+ years of teaching at undergraduate level</p> <p>. Proven agenda of research and professional engagement</p> <p>. Communication skills consistent with effective teaching, mentoring and</p> <p>motivating Music majors from a broad range of cultural, ethnic, and</p> <p>economic backgrounds and actively participating in the department and</p> <p>broader university.</p> <p>. Experience in course design, development, and assessment of student</p> <p>learning out comes.</p> <p>. Experience utilizing LMS such as canvas and other software</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and</p> <p>manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to</p> <p>stoop, kneel, bend and reach.</p>
