<p>The Salvation Army</p> <p>Northern and Central Illinois Division</p> <p>Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center - Chicago</p> <p>Position Description</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: Day Camp Counselor</p> <p>LOCATION/DEPT: Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center</p> <p>REPORTS to (TITLE): Arts and Education Manager</p> <p>FLSA STATUS: TFT and TPT Non Exempt</p> <p>PAY GRADE: 202</p> <p>PAY RATE: $17.60-$21.11</p> <p>MISSION</p> <p>The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Chicago exists to express the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. The Vision of the Chicago Kroc Center is to impact individuals, families and seniors of the Southside while building community, promoting excellence, motivating wellness, teaching character, and encouraging faith.</p> <p>OUTCOMES</p> <p>The Day Camp Counselor will ensure that Campers are provided a safe, enriching, and stimulating environment - promoting program membership and increased involvement in other Kroc Center programs.</p> <p>PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide campers a safe environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Enforce all rules that pertain to the Day Camp and facility on a constant basis.</p> </li><li> <p>Follow Safe from Harm Guidelines/Procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Adhere to check-in and check-out policy.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a vigilant watch on campers in all program areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform regular head counts and keep an accurate attendance list of assigned children.</p> </li><li> <p>Follow and adhere to discipline procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Make sure clean-up program areas and maintain equipment in a safe manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants.</p> </li><li> <p>Complete incident reports when necessary</p> </li><li> <p>Keep camper issues confidential. Do not share issues with other campers, parents or patrons, news organizations, or staffers who are not involved.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure the safe use of the facility and execution of activities through enforcement of facility and activity-specific regulations and insuring that only authorized patrons participate.</p> </li><li> <p>Protect, maintain, and be accountable for group camp supplies such as assigned radio, folder and group backpack.</p> </li><li> <p>Report any and all facility defects/problems to Day Camp Manager or Lead Counselor.</p> </li><li> <p>Adhere to dress code at all times.</p> </li><li> <p>Required to be in uniform at all times.</p> </li><li> <p>May be required to wear activity appropriate attire (i.e., swimwear for Aquatics, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Attend all mandatory meetings/trainings</p> </li><li> <p>Provide enriching and stimulating environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership with enthusiasm.</p> </li><li> <p>Encourage campers to participate in a variety of disciplines.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan activities, lesson plans, and supervision of activity stations with the help of other counselors.</p> </li><li> <p>Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the Day Camp Director or Assistant Director.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in athletic program area preparation/clean up and/or additional shifts within the athletics department. Assist in supervision of gymnasium, field and special events and game room areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify sparks within program participants.</p> </li><li> <p>Build assets in program participants.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide excellent customer service and communication with parents.</p> </li><li> <p>Greet campers and parents, by name, enthusiastically.</p> </li><li> <p>Interface respectfully with peers, supervisors and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Handle disputes with participants, parents and students in a professional manner with guidance of Day Camp Manager or Lead Counselor.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate any disciplinary issues to Day Camp Manager and parents.</p> </li><li> <p>Encourage Day Camp participants to the next level of participation at the Kroc Center.</p> </li><li> <p>Have knowledge of other Kroc Center programs and answer questions.</p> </li><li> <p>Promote membership and classes.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>RELATIONSHIPS</p> <p>This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army and in these contacts they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED</p> <p>Under general supervision of the Arts and Education Manager with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE MEASURES</p> <p>This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.</p> <p>EDUCATION</p> <p>A High School diploma or a GED is required. Some related college coursework preferred.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 18 years of age. </li><li>2 years' experience working with children preferred. </li><li>Experience with a computer based work environment and a working knowledge of Word. </li></ul> <p>COMPENTENCIES</p> <ul> <li>An understanding of child development and building assets in youth. </li><li>Ability to prompt and prepared for work. </li><li>Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, using diplomacy and good judgment. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter. </li><li>An attention to detail. </li><li>A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities. </li><li>An ability to work with confidential material. </li><li>Enthusiastic about recreational programs and arts programs. </li><li>Computer knowledge helpful but not necessary. </li><li>A willingness to promote the mission of The RJKCCC </li><li>CPR/First Aid/AED Certified </li><li>Safe From Harm Trained within 30 days </li></ul> <p>POSITION LIMITATIONS</p> <p>This individual will accurately represent the mission of The RJKCCC.</p> <p>This individual will keep the Arts and Education Manager informed of all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.</p> <p>This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use equipment used in a children's day school program. At times this employee is required to lift up to 40 pounds.
