<p>Overview</p> <p>At LOGISTEC, we are leaders in marine and terminal operations, and we are committed to operational excellence, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Superintendent is responsible for safely, accurately, and efficiently directing all vessel and terminal operations to achieve operational targets, drive productivity, and uphold our culture of safety and performance.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The ideal candidate is a proven stevedoring and marine terminal operations professional with at least five years of relevant experience, including two or more years in a supervisory capacity. This individual will be a decisive and collaborative leader who can communicate effectively across all levels of the organization-from longshore labor to the executive team-and represent LOGISTEC with professionalism in all customer interactions. Strong judgment, risk management, and decision-making skills are critical to balancing operational efficiency with customer expectations and safety standards.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure the safety and compliance of all vessel and terminal work crews, enforcing LOGISTEC safety policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate with Port Captains, steamship lines, and agencies to schedule ship arrivals.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee personnel actions including training, coaching, performance management, and labor allocation.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with Port Captains, Superintendents, and ILA Union positions (Gearmen, Mechanics, Ship Runners, etc.) to review stowage plans and allocate required labor, equipment, and gear.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan vessel operations to ensure labor and equipment are secured in advance; oversee daily labor orders sent to workforce planners.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee all vessel/terminal documentation including materials lists, pre-check inspections, and damage reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with specific requests from customers going through the clerks.</p> </li><li> <p>Partner with department heads to ensure quality, personnel management, productivity, and customer satisfaction targets are achieved.</p> </li><li> <p>Determine heavy lift, critical lift, and standard lift needs; secure labor and equipment appropriately.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain certification, inspection, and readiness of all operational gear and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor vessel production daily and adjust labor/equipment utilization as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate with internal teams on yard and warehouse space utilization for discharge and vessel turnover.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure ILA Checkers Union staff are managing bookings, tagging cargo, and reconciling export cargo from terminal to vessel, managing cargo in the inventory system.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure ILA Checkers conduct post-vessel walkthrough turnovers and enter times from the clerks in order to initiate billing from our working records.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead or support investigations of safety or quality nonconformances and draft root-cause and preventive action reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and mentor new gangs and identify high-potential talent for foreman and supervisory roles.</p> </li><li> <p>Consistently completes assignments from the General Manager.</p> </li><li> <p>Meets or exceeds productivity goals for the location.</p> </li><li> <p>Achieves or surpasses safety targets including TRIR and LTIR metrics.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains strong customer relationships and receives positive customer feedback.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>5+ years of stevedoring and marine terminal operations experience, with 3+ years in a supervisory role.</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree from a Maritime Academy, in Maritime Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to lead through change, drive continuous improvement, and motivate teams.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong decision-making, organizational, and project management skills with both strategic and operational focus.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective leadership presence and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel); experience with operational systems preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to build effective relationships internally and externally.</p> </li><li> <p>Analytical thinker with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Highly organized, deadline-driven, and proactive; able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Self-starter capable of independent work while recognizing when to escalate issues.</p> </li><li> <p>Professional demeanor with a positive, team-oriented mindset.</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred: Prior experience managing or supervising in an ILA unionized environment.</p> </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements & Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li> <p>On-site in terminal environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, twist, reach overhead, and perform repetitive movements.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to occasionally lift/push/pull up to 30 lbs.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequent exposure to outdoor elements, loud environments, and moving mechanical equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>May be required to climb ladders (50+ feet) and work at heights or in confined spaces.</p> </li></ul> <p>Compensation & Benefits:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 plus up to 10% annual bonus</p> </li><li> <p>Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term & Long Term Disability and more!</p> </li><li> <p>401K with Employer match</p> </li><li> <p>Vacation, Sick time and Holiday pay</p> </li></ul> <p>#Logistec_us</p>
