<p>Position Summary</p> <p>This position is primarily responsible for acting as the Bureau of Structures (BOS) technical expert in the construction of transportation structures including, but not limited to; bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, noise walls, and sign structures. The responsibilities of this position involve highly professional or technical judgements on transportation structures up to, and including the most complex types, which carry significant consequences of error.</p> <p>This position manages and works to resolve structures construction project issues within BOS; with all appropriate sections within the Bureaus of Project Development (BPD), Traffic Operations (BTO), and Technical Services (BTS); as well as with Design, Maintenance, Geotechnical, and Construction Sections within the respective region offices. Coordination activities include significant levels of contact and communication with project personnel, technical resources internal and external to BOS, other state and federal agencies and departments, and other external partners. This position will be utilized primarily for structures construction assignments including the training and coaching of other BOS staff, but also will assist the BOS Design Section in other technical capacities.</p> <p>This position requires a strong structural background in design, maintenance, and construction to perform the most complex technical activities requiring a high level of accountability. This position requires extensive knowledge and experience with the WisDOT Standard Specifications, the WisDOT Bridge Manual, the WisDOT Construction and Materials Manual, typical transportation structures detailing practices, etc.</p> <p>To view the full position description, please reach out to Allie Strullmyer at allison.strullmyer@dot.wi.gov.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $85,342 to $104,478, plus excellent benefits.</p> <p>The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $99,299 to $112,237, plus excellent benefits. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License.</p> <p>A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.</p> <p>A $3,000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have any prior permanent full-time state service in the last five years and agree to remain in the position for one year. The $3,000 will be paid on the first paycheck.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>This state agency does not sponsor work visas. This state agency is not enrolled in USCIS E-Verify and is not eligible to employ international F-1 students seeking STEM-OPT extension. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.</p> <p>Prior to any appointments for position(s) filled from this announcement, candidates may be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check which may include FBI fingerprinting.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum requirement:</p> <p>Upon application, candidate must have graduated from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year bachelor's degree (or Master's or PH.D.) in engineering</p> <p>OR have graduated from an Engineer Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) accredited college university with a 4-year bachelor's degree (or Master's or PH.D.) in engineering technology AND hold an Engineering in Training (EIT) certification</p> <p>OR possess a PE license (registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin OR a valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state).</p> <p>In addition to the above, to be eligible at the Senior level, candidate must have:</p> <ul> <li>At least 3.5 years of experience in design, construction, or maintenance of transportation structuresafter receiving their engineering degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) ABET accredited college or university. (Structures are defined as bridges, culverts, sound walls, retaining walls or sign bridges.) </li></ul> <p>In addition to the above, to be eligible at the Advanced level, candidates must have:</p> <ul> <li>A valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state. </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Apply online!
