<p>Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas.</p> <p>Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.</p> <p>Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today!</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The technician will be assigned full time (40 hours weekly) to support Development Metallurgical Engineering & Processing group and should be capable of performing hands-on activities in the following areas:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Routine hands-on work includes preparation of samples for metallographic examination. Activities include sawing, mounting, grinding, polishing, and chemical etching of samples for evaluation using various tools such as optical microscopes and other analytical instruments.</p> </li><li> <p>Additional general foundry activities may include melting and casting, sawing, shearing, drilling, coating of crucibles and molds, cleaning of materials (solvent, acid, and caustic), pressing and swaging, and heat treating of depleted uranium and depleted uranium alloys to support general research and development activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Other work type activities include taking inventory of materials (i.e. uranium, chemicals, equipment, etc.), handling/packaging of wastes(radiological/non-radiological), handling gas cylinders, and housekeeping and/or cleaning of work areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Cleaning the inside of the furnaces, replacing thermocouples, replacing sensors and gauges, and furnace leak checking are other routine tasks.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Associates or higher degree in a technical field and 10 to 15 years of related experience or high school diploma and 20+ years of relevant experience. Requires demonstrated in-depth knowledge and skills in technical specialty. Individuals in this group may lead other technicians by planning and providing work direction. Recognized as an expert in their field.</p> </li><li> <p>Q Clearance.</p> </li><li> <p>This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy and would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position.
