<p>The purpose of this classification is to perform specialized/administrative duties associated with Risk Management to include administering the city's worker's compensation program with a concentration on employee safety and awareness programs.Performs specialized/administrative duties associated with Risk Management services to include but not limited to: Workers Compensation, Long Term Disability, and Employee safety and awareness programs.</p> <p>Coordinates and reviews work of supporting staff.</p> <p>Provides information, training, assistance and guidance on matters pertaining to worker's compensation and Risk Management Programs; consults and advises department/division heads, supervisors and employees on Risk Management Services; provides professional expertise on matters of Risk Management Policies and Procedures; interprets and explains city policies and procedures relative to Risk Management services.</p> <p>Administers the Violence in the Workplace policy. Evaluates all medical bills for accuracy; challenges medical bills not related to on the job injury.</p> <p>Maintains contact with City's compensation attorney; provides required information for court proceedings.</p> <p>Maintains and insures that the worker's compensation "panel of physicians" are posted in each department; consults with and maintains contact with physicians and case managers as required.</p> <p>May prepare materials and evidence for legal proceedings; testifies in hearings and court. Reviews appropriate enrollment/application forms; determines appropriate effective dates; ensures completion, accuracy and compliance with laws, policies and procedures governing the same.</p> <p>Performs case management with third party administrators as required for worker's compensation and long term disability to resolve problems and obtain benefits.</p> <p>Plans, organizes, schedules, communicates and implements various safety training programs for city employees, which may include new employee orientations, new supervisor orientations, and workplace violence classes; coordinates and conducts defensive driving classes for employees and dependents as required.</p> <p>Researches training material, develops training programs, develops or obtains handouts and education materials; prepares and presents information, presentations or training seminars, schedules and coordinates employee and retiree information meetings.</p> <p>Conducts investigations of accidents relating to on-the-job injuries and incidents of property damage by photographing scenes, completing reports, interviewing witnesses and claimants.</p> <p>Determines eligibility and processes applications and/or claims for long-term disability, worker's compensation and wavier of premiums.</p> <p>Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing JDE/Larry, Microsoft Word, Excel, word processing, spreadsheet, database presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.</p> <p>Processes a variety of documentation associated with departmental operations, per established procedures and within designated timeframes; distributes documentation or retains records; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, claims, applications, affidavits, wage/insurance verifications, fund transfer requests, or other documents.</p> <p>Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, timesheets, claims, manuals, policies, procedures, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate.</p> <p>Responds to routine requests for information/assistance from employees, officials, the public or other individuals.</p> <p>Communicates with risk management services, department heads, supervisors, employees, city departments, insurance carriers, medical providers, outside agencies, the public, and other individuals to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.</p> <p>Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.</p> <p>Maintains confidentiality and professional integrity in involvement with departmental issues. Attends meetings and workshops; serves on committees as needed; makes speeches and presentations.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS</p> <p>May perform the duties of the Manager of Risk Management Services in absence of same; performs other related duties as required.Associate's degree in Business Administration, Management, or closely related field preferred. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred; additionally, two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving employee benefits, worker's compensation claims, and liability, employee/occupational safety or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's license.Data Utilization: Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria. Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.</p> <p>Human Interaction: Requires the ability to apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility.</p> <p>Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.</p> <p>Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.</p> <p>Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.</p> <p>Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.</p> <p>Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.</p> <p>ADA COMPLIANCE</p> <p>Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.</p> <p>Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
