The final date is to be determined.</p> <p>Questions should be directed to:</p> <p>Cody Lennon, lennonc@ohio.edu</p> <p>Assistant Director, Outdoor Recreation and Education</p> <p>Posting Number 20161580STD Job Description</p> <p>This is a nine-month appointment beginning July, 2025 (with opportunity to start in June) and requires a commitment of 20 hours/week including office hours. The intention is for the chosen individual to hold this position for two years while they are in graduate school. The goal of the position is to involve the Outdoor Pursuits GA in all aspects of the administration of a university outdoor pursuits program, with emphasis on trip programming, challenge course programming, logistics and gear management, and climbing wall management. The Outdoor Pursuits GA is expected to have commitment to upholding the mission, vision, and values of University Well-Being and Recreation, along with dedication towards providing an equitable and inclusive experience to patrons, participants, and fellow-staff members.</p> <p>Responsibilities Include:</p> <ul> <li>Planning, coordinating, and leading various outdoor programs </li><li>Assisting with hiring, supervision, training, and evaluation of student employees </li><li>Program-wide equipment inventory, maintenance, ordering, and billing </li><li>Managing challenge course, climbing wall, and outdoor gear facilities </li><li>Serving as the administrative contact person when program director is not available </li></ul> <p>Actively contribute as a staff member of the Department of Well-Being & Recreation and Division of Student Affairs. Promote and facilitate effective communication and collaborative efforts across all department, divisional, university and community partners. Maintain current knowledge of the University, its environment, purpose and affairs to be prepared to respond to appropriate issues. Actively participate in professional development opportunities when available and maintain current knowledge of current trends and best practices within area of responsibility. Advocate and promote diversity and inclusion through roles and responsibilities in support of department, division, and university initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Undergraduate degree in recreation, education, or related field. </li><li>Experience with recreational program management and/or staff supervision. </li><li>Experience leading wilderness trips. </li><li>Knowledgeable in the use and care of a variety of outdoor recreation equipment. </li><li>Indoor climbing wall experience. </li><li>Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with staff and participants. </li><li>High level organizational skills and attention to detail. </li><li>Ability to effectively operate software systems including Fusion, Excel, and Word. </li><li>Ability to coordinate staff and facilities needed for education programming. </li><li>Ability to effectively and safely facilitate low and high ropes course programs. </li><li>Current WFR, and First Aid / CPR / AED certification. </li><li>Documented experience with staff skill training. </li><li>Strong commitment and motivation to student development. </li><li>Strong references for being adaptable, self-starter, self-directed, ability to work unsupervised, mature judgment, detail -oriented, and a team player. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Additional outdoor-related certifications are desirable, but not</p> <p>necessary to apply.
