<p>Position Type:</p> <p>High School Teaching/English</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>6/17/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Covenant Schools</p> <p>(High-Needs School)</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>Immediate</p> <p>District:</p> <p>&nbsp Covenant Schools Detroit&nbsp&nbspAdditional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Position: Teacher of English Language Learners & Coordinator of ELL Program</p> <p>Reports to: Principal or Academic Dean</p> <p>General Description: Deliver teacher-led instruction and support online learning in a blended learning environment to meet a range of educational needs for youth learning English.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities - ELL Teacher</p> <ul> <li>Provide instruction in English language to English Language Learners </li><li>Develop lessons and units focused on Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking the English language </li><li>Monitor student achievement, student progress, English proficiency levels, and Formerly Limited English Proficient (FLEP) students </li><li>Communicate with students working remotely on a regular basis </li><li>Support ELL students working in the online curriculum </li><li>Implement curriculum in accordance with established procedures </li><li>Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning </li><li>Maintain accurate records regarding student progress, attendance and engagement </li><li>Communicate student progress and achievement to parents/guardians and students </li><li>Participate in ELL Professional Learning Community </li><li>Participate in school and district planning </li><li>Complete other tasks as directed by the Principal/Academic Dean </li></ul> <p>Primary Responsibilities - ELL Coordinator</p> <ul> <li>Prepare and administer all standardized tests as directed, including W-APT, WIDA and WIDA Screeners </li><li>Maintain accurate ELL records </li><li>Complete required state and federal reports for Section 41, Title III and others </li><li>Develop, maintain, and revise as needed the school's ELL program </li><li>Identify incoming potential ELL students using the MDE Entrance Protocol </li><li>Process students exiting ELL services </li><li>Monitor's school's compliance with ELL staffing requirements </li><li>Oversee Seal of Biliteracy testing </li><li>Evaluate school's ELL program </li><li>Maintain ELL handbook </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to understand the awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of homeless and at-risk youth that Covenant High School serves </li><li>Ability to adapt and adjust instruction to create multiple paths to meet learning objectives </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Effective organizational skills with the ability to multitask </li><li>Aptitude and working knowledge of computer courseware and hardware </li><li>Ability to impact student achievement through mentoring, motivation, and monitoring practices </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree </li><li>Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language </li><li>Knowledge of sheltered instruction (SIOP) and other language development methods preferred </li><li>Satisfactory completion of criminal history check </li></ul> <p>Youth Vision Solutions is an equal opportunity employer.
