<p>The Residence Director engages in operational, administrative, and programmatic initiatives for Student Living. This is a full-time, exempt status, professional staff member. This position is a 12-month live-in position that is responsible for the management of a residential community, housing 250 to 1000 students, to which they are assigned and report to an Assistant Director.</p> <p>Responsibilities include educational, managerial, and administrative functions to provide an environment supportive of the University's mission and vision. This includes implementation of Student Living's curriculum; supervising student leaders; crisis intervention; participation in on call;</p> <p>resolution of violations of Student Living policies; implementing programs designed to assist students in transitioning to campus living; and other duties as assigned.</p> <p>This is a highly visible position with students and staff, providing day-to-day support to students, student employees, and multiple levels of staff. This position is critical to ensure that students living on campus have residential staff committed to their needs and development.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field is preferred. </li><li>Evening and weekend commitments are expected. </li><li>Residence Directors must reside in their provided on-campus apartment. </li><li>Candidates should have previous residence hall or student advising experience and have confirmed skills in mediation, crisis intervention, problem solving, and decision-making. </li><li>Also required is demonstrated potential to supervise paraprofessional staff and experience in at least two of the following specialized areas: counseling, advisement, programming, student development, housing operations, residence hall safety and security, public relations, or summer programs. </li><li>Candidates who have other relevant experiences, including degrees in majors and minors that align with Learning Community concentrations, will be strongly considered. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of student development, counseling and/or event management. </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication. </li><li>Strong ability to handle multiple priorities and work across many different constituencies. </li><li>The Residence Director should support the development of a welcoming to all residence hall community and demonstrate cultural competency. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Utilizes a residential curriculum framework to foster student learning, development and engagement. </li><li>Assists RAs in assessing the needs of residents and developing floor programs to meet their needs. </li><li>Advises student organizations, supported by theory and best practice. </li><li>Advises students informally with regard to personal, social, and academic problems, and when necessary, make appropriate referrals. </li><li>Mediates a range of student conflicts including roommate agreements and concerns. </li><li>Actively develops an environment, through dialogue and other educational means that encourages and fosters inclusive communities. </li><li>Participates in the development and implementation of residentially based learning communities assigned to their building or complex. </li><li>Works with specific learning community staff members to develop, implement, and attend Learning Community programs and Team Meetings. </li><li>Participates in all departmental training and debriefings, including participating in inclusion focused book reads, discussions, and activities </li><li>Trains, supervises, and participates in the formal and informal evaluation process with anywhere from 8-21 paraprofessional staff in their assigned area and potentially Residence Hall Operations Coordinator. </li><li>Holds regular hall staff meetings to disseminate pertinent information and one-on-one meetings with Resident Advisors. </li><li>Communicates student's rights and responsibilities and assists in adjudicating departmental and university code of conduct violations. </li><li>Provides staff coverage, including emergency duty, during the year including hall openings, closing, and university vacation days. </li><li>Handles emergency situations utilizing crisis intervention skills and resources. </li><li>Serves in an on-call rotation with other Professional Staff in their designated area encompassing approximately 1,800-2,500 students. </li><li>Ensure that the hall staff has an operating knowledge of the procedures, policies, and practices essential to the effective functioning of the hall. </li><li>Manages their hall/complex by conducting weekly walkthroughs of their building and follow up with maintenance and custodial concerns. </li><li>Manages the programming and operation budget for the hall and is an active participant in area meetings, departmental meetings and training programs. </li><li>Establishes a schedule for Residential Work Hours that is appropriate for a student-facing, residentially focused role. </li><li>Schedules work hours that meet the needs of students living on and off-campus. </li><li>This includes some evening and weekend hours essential for programs and training, as well as some university business hours for meetings and business with other university staff. </li><li>Maintains a visible and active presence in their residence hall(s). </li><li>Serves as a member or co-chair on departmental committees and will be assigned to work with one of two summer academic programs and/or summer school housing (Summer Sessions or Summer Start). </li><li>Additionally, the Residence Director will perform other related
