<p>This Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician (Paramedic) will be assigned to the Department of Veterans Transportation Services (VTS) Ambulance Service, in various VA Medical Center (VAMC) locations with an emergency room, acute care or urgent care clinic, or other similar departments performinfg basic and advanced life support procedures.</p> <p>Incumbent also exercises supervisory authorities and responsibilities over the Ambulance Services Program (ASP).</p> <p>As the Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician (Paramedic) the incumbent performs all the duties and responsibilities of a Paramedic. The Supervisory Medical Transportation Technician(Paramedic) duties will include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Evaluates procedures/techniques of patient care for compliance with emergency medical service protocols. </li><li>Plans the work of the ASP employees, setting and adjusting both short and long-term priorities and goals. </li><li>Creates, adjusts, and approves ASP employee schedules as well as reviewing and approving leave requests in accordance with VA policy and ASP workload needs. </li><li>Prepare forecasts of funds needed for equipment, materials, and supplies of the ASP. </li><li>Provide advice on emergency medical service care, system delivery, and on the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and directives. </li><li>Develops, implements, and/or recommends organizational policy, planning, and procedural initiatives related to Ambulance Services. Takes corrective action to improve the quality and quantity of work and resolves problems not covered by precedents or established policies related to Ambulance Services. </li><li>Ensures the operation of an effective system of internal controls by periodically reviewing internal control measures, initiating needed revisions, and evaluates procedures/techniques of patient care for compliance with emergency medical services protocols. </li><li>Supervisory Paramedic interviews candidates for ASP positions and recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions. </li><li>Observes workers' performance, develops performance standards, and conducts work performance critiques related to the performance of Ambulance Services. Provides informal feedback and performanceevaluations for all ASP subordinates. </li><li>Resolves formal and informal complaints not directed towards themselves. </li><li>Act as a liaison to the EMS community and Ambulance Service Program Medical Director, and track ambulance transport statistics. Incumbent shall be the primary representativefor the ASP during Assistant Medical Center Director and Ambulance Service Program Medical Director meetings. </li><li>Assists with training medical center personnel for participation on the Hospital Decontamination Team, Hospital Duel Use Vehicle program, and Hospital Infectious Disease Incident Response Team (I-Dirt). </li><li>Coordinates and maintains command and control of ASP responses at the Medical Center and in the community. </li><li>Perform patient triage and take/r performs physical examinations and obtains patient history, assess the neurologic system, cardiovascular system, circulatory system, skeletal system, orthopedic system, motor and sensory skills, and level of consciousness. </li><li>Makes an independent preliminary assessment of the condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols the one that is considered appropriate under the given circumstances. </li><li>Administers basic and advanced life support care at emergency scene in accordance with established medical standards, which may include providing advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), international trauma life support (ITLS), PALS, PEPP, advanced airway management, CPR, and/or drug treatments. </li><li>Performs invasive and non-invasive procedures on patients with life threatening and non-life-threatening conditions per established procedures or as authorized/directed by physicians. </li><li>Responds to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, performs cardiac monitoring and defibrillation; maintains circulation, controls bleeding and provides spinal management and immobilization. </li><li>Provides fluid resuscitation by IV and manages trauma injuries, bleeding, and post-traumatic shock. </li><li>Assist with children and administers medications as appropriate. </li><li>Observes, records, and, and performs rapid sequence intubation according to established medical standards. </li><li>Ensures that the vehicles are kept clean and neat. </li><li>Decontaminate the vehicle in accordance with Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) established procedures. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Supervisory Paramedics may work rotating shifts, including holidays, and are subject to occasional recall to maintain adequate coverage of the Emergency Department and ambulance service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
