<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Under direct supervision of the Medical Supervisor at the South Carolina Youth ChalleNGe Academy (SCYCA), a quasi-military program. Administers first aid to cadets/staff, medication, and specialized medical treatments for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured cadets in accordance with the State laws and District policies. Maintains patient records and prepares reports. Promotes wellness through activities directed toward prevention and reduction of risk factors, early detection of disease and control of identified health problems. Counsels students on health conditions and lifestyle issues (e.g. mental health, pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease, substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating a healthier student population. Other duties as assigned. May require rotating nights and weekend call. Occasional weekend hours may be required. Other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>High School Diploma/GED, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) DHEC or NREMT certification or graduation from a SC DHEC approved/certified medical assistant program.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>High School Diploma/GED, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) DHEC or NREMT certification or graduation from a SC DHEC approved/certified medical assistant program with at least 1-2 years of medical experience.</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>Knowledge of agency policies, procedures, regulations and program services. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally. Knowledge of the techniques and practices of the nursing profession. Knowledge of medical and nursing terminology. Ability to prepare educational and training materials for nursing care programs. Ability to plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Ability to instruct and direct the work of paraprofessional staff. Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of patients. Knowledge of health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; stages of child development; and pediatric and family nursing practices. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; dealing with distraught, angry or hostile individuals, maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data. Must be able to work weekends and evenings, 12 hour shifts maybe required.</p>
