Orange County Government is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment and services to all individuals.</p> <p>The Orange County Environmental Protection Division is seeking to fill an Environmental Specialist I/II (ESI/II) or Senior Environmental Specialist (SES) position to provide professional support to the Green PLACE Program which oversees the acquisition and management of environmentally sensitive lands (ESL).</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>General Functions</p> <p>The successful candidate will serve as part of a team responsible for conducting land management activities development and implementation of nature-based recreational amenities and evaluation of potential ESL Work is characterized by considerable independence and responsibility to exercise initiative, and carry all assignments through to completion.</p> <p>Representative Duties/Assignments</p> <p>Specific duties will vary, based on area of assignment.</p> <ul> <li>Assisting with Land Management activities on all Green PLACE Properties and oversight of Contractors. </li><li>Development and implementation of Contracts. </li><li>Assist with monitoring of habitats and wildlife and with the management of invasive species. </li><li>Participate in studies, surveys and specialized research. </li><li>Attend public meetings, make presentations and provide public assistance as needed. </li><li>Assisting in providing staff support to the Green PLACE Advisory Board. </li><li>Assisting with acquiring new ESL. </li><li>Perform other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Environmental Specialist I</p> <p>Associate's degree from an accredited institution or the equivalent of two years of full-time undergraduate study major course work in Environmental or Civil Engineering, the natural sciences, or a related field. In Lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.</p> <p>Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to adverse weather.</p> <p>Based on area of assignment, may be required to possess and maintain a valid Florida Operator license.</p> <p>Environmental Specialist II</p> <p>Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Environmental or Civil Engineering, the natural sciences, or a related field and one year environmental experience. In Lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.</p> <p>Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to adverse weather.</p> <p>Required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver license.</p> <p>Senior Environmental Specialist</p> <p>Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors Degree and major course work in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, the natural sciences, or a related field and three years of environmental experience.In Lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.</p> <p>Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to adverse weather.</p> <p>Required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver license</p> <p>Preferences</p> <ul> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills; </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office; </li><li>Proficiency with ARCGIS software; </li><li>Candidate must have or be able to obtain Natural Area Herbicide applicators license; </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; </li><li>Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work projects; </li><li>Experience with central Florida habitats and the flora and fauna that exist in those habitats; </li><li>Project management skills; and </li><li>Technical writing skills </li><li>2 years of prescribed fire experience </li></ul> <p>Application Deadline</p> <p>Open Date: 05/02/2025</p> <p>Close Date: 05/16/2025</p> <p>This posting is subject to close without prior notice.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>Environmental Specialist I</p> <p>Pay Grade: 014 - From $22.51 to $36.01</p> <p>FLSA Status:Exempt</p> <p>Placement based on Education and Experience</p> <p>Environmental Specialist II</p> <p>Pay Grade: 015 - From $24.27 to $38.82</p> <p>FLSA Status:Exempt</p> <p>Placement based on Education and Experience</p> <p>Senior Environmental Specialist</p> <p>Pay Grade: 017 - From $28.21 to $45.10</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Placement based on County Policy or bargaining unit contract</p> <p>(There is a $1,000 Sign On Incentive for fhe Senior Environmental Specialist position)</p> <p>Sign-on Incentive</p> <p>The Senior Environmental Specialist position is eligible for a Sign-on Incentive.
