<p>Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Venue Event and Production Supervisor to play a key role in delivering high-quality live events and performances. This position offers hands-on involvement across the full event lifecycle-from planning and coordination to on-site execution and post-event settlement-making it ideal for someone who enjoys both organization and live production environments. Working closely with the Production Director and Venue Manager, the supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for assigned events, collaborates with crew and vendors, and helps ensure smooth, professional experiences for performers and audiences alike. In addition to event oversight, this role contributes to broader department operations through scheduling, documentation, and budget support. It's a great opportunity for someone with live event experience who is looking to expand their skills, take on leadership responsibilities, and be part of a collaborative, fast-paced university setting.</p> <ul> <li>Event Supervision: Initiates the planning of meetings and attends load-in, setup, rehearsals, performances, and strike/restore as SOA/UVU representative when assigned oversight of an event. Creates and manages production schedules for assigned events - ensuring sufficient time is allocated for all aspects of the production process. Ensures all areas of technical needs are coordinated with other departments: lighting, audio, projection/video, scenic, props, costumes, box office, marketing, etc. As applicable, is the point-person for event vendors and key university collaborators, including UVU Police, Fire, Risk, etc. Works closely with visiting events to align with UVU/SOA/The Noorda best practices. Always ensures the safe, professional, and efficient execution of events for the audience, performers, and crew. </li><li>Planning: Schedules venues for SOA, Noorda, and UVU/Rental needs for production, rehearsal, performance, workshop, and exhibition spaces. Works within Academic Scheduling and Event Services processes to ensure academic needs are met first. Reserves production equipment resources for each event. Assists in scheduling the necessary crew for assigned events. Reviews production and event budgets, creates estimates, and tracks spending in areas across the department. </li><li>Documentation and Processes: Maintains professional, best-practices production procedures, checklists, estimate paperwork, settlements, and reports. Develops SOPs and guideline documentation. Aids in training SOA and other staff. </li><li>Performs other job-related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Bachelor's Degree in technical theater or a combination of education and experience equaling 4 years in theatrical venue supervision. Knowledge</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of all aspects of the performing arts and technical production, including music, theatre, dance, opera, lecture/demonstration, conferences, workshops, etc. </p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of hands-on event management and execution, from inception to post-event assessment.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiar with labor agreements and negotiation, labor law, contracts, and payroll. </p> </li><li> <p>Certification in crowd management and safety, first aid/CPR/AED, and industry best practices for event-related risk management practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Working knowledge of office software, including Microsoft Office, and other software/online resources used for scheduling and production management, payroll, and shift scheduling software, e.g., WhenToWork, etc. </p> </li><li> <p>Ability to quickly learn and implement new systems as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with standard event vendor contracts and negotiation in areas such as Catering (and safe food handling), Security, Parking, Backline/Equipment, Labor, A/V and networking, etc.</p> </li></ul> <p>Skills</p> <ul> <li> <p>Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. </p> </li><li> <p>Excellent time management and organizational skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills. </p> </li><li> <p>Professional proficiency in technical theatre and proper operation of standard equipment such as: Genie lifts, chain motors, counterweight rigging systems, power tools, staging risers, piano transports, hazardous materials, etc. </p> </li><li> <p>Basic operational skills with sound and lighting equipment and systems under the direction of area supervisors.</p> </li><li> <p>Solid negotiating skills when establishing various relevant contracts.</p> </li></ul> <p>Abilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Results-driven with proven ability to manage changing priorities with non-flexible deadlines. </p> </li><li> <p>Ability to excel in a fast-paced and diverse working environment, creating creative solutions to ensure production continuity in a safe and productive way.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to display passion for the performing arts and the ability to provide production and customer service excellence. </p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work in a team environment and successfully manage professional relationships, working with all levels of employees and management. As appropriate, collaborate with staff from other units and divisions to achieve the school's goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work independently under pressure; proactive thinker/self-starter. </p> </li><li> <p>Ability to read and interpret schedules, contracts, plots, and drawings, technical riders, and other industry-specific documentation with ease. </p> </li><li> <p>Ability to hold all members, employees, and visitors accountable to the highest standards for safety and the safe execution of all production activities.</p> </li></ul>
