<p>ASSISTANT WATER MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR 63380</p> <p>(Competitive)</p> <p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS</p> <p>The work involves responsibility for assisting the Water Maintenance Supervisor in scheduling and</p> <p>implementing the construction, maintenance and repair activities of the Onondaga County Water Authority.</p> <p>The primary responsibility is to schedule and direct the daily activities of work crews. An employee in this</p> <p>class works under the direct supervision of the Water Maintenance Supervisor. Assignments are received</p> <p>through conferences by the Water Maintenance Supervisor and work orders. Work is reviewed by</p> <p>observation of the performance of assigned crews. Direct supervision is exercised over a number of skilled</p> <p>and semi-skilled workers. Does related work as required.</p> <p>TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES</p> <p>Schedules the daily activities of water maintenance crews to insure the most efficient and safe use of</p> <p>equipment and employees.</p> <p>Oversees and supervises all emergency repairs made by maintenance crews.</p> <p>Interprets maps, plans and specifications as they relate to the maintenance and repair of a water</p> <p>distribution system through the use of an automated system.</p> <p>Insures that vehicles and equipment receive preventive maintenance when scheduled.</p> <p>Requisitions materials and equipment needed to complete projects.</p> <p>Assists in maintaining a variety of records relating to main locations, materials, vehicle maintenance</p> <p>and personnel.</p> <p>FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS</p> <p>Good knowledge of the principles, practices, materials and equipment used in the construction and</p> <p>maintenance of a water distribution system.</p> <p>Good knowledge of the regulations and fundamentals of safety and preventive measures taken to eliminate work related accidents.</p> <p>Working knowledge of the methods and practices of record keeping.</p> <p>Working knowledge of the methods and practices of supervision.</p> <p>Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints and maps as they relate to a water distribution system</p> <p>utilizing an automated Geographic Information System.</p> <p>Ability to effectively plan and assign the work of subordinates.</p> <p>Ability to supervise subordinates.</p> <p>Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Promotion:</p> <p>Two (2) years of permanent, non-competitive class status as a Water Maintenance Crew Leader; or,</p> <p>Three (3) years of permanent, non-competitive class status as a Water Maintenance Worker II; or,</p> <p>Three (3) years of permanent, non-competitive class status as an Underground Facilities Locator.</p> <p>Open Competitive:</p> <p>Five (5) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the maintenance and construction of</p> <p>a water distribution system, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.</p> <p>SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>When required to operate motor vehicles, employees must possess a valid NYS driver's license appropriate to the class of vehicles being operated, with appropriate endorsements as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a Grade D Water System Operator certification issued by the NYS Department of Health at time of appointment.</p> </li></ul> <p>02/2017 Revised</p>
