<p>Position Summary: The Day Camp Junior Counselor will monitor, lead, and control a group of children. This position will work with children, fellow workers, and staff to provide a safe and meaningful summer day camp experience in a Christian environment.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assist all field trips (unless medically unable, will be required to participate with the campers). </li><li>Provide support to counselors responsible for a small group of youth ages 5-14 on site and on field trips. </li><li>Be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures. This includes never being solely responsible for your group. </li><li>Work with program staff to plan and execute daily activities as needed. </li><li>Responsible for the welfare of campers. </li><li>Work with the appropriate staff in solving problems between campers. </li><li>Inform Day Camp Director of any staff or camper problems. </li><li>Work with the day camp director and program staff in scheduling activities for the campers. </li><li>Encourage camper participation in activities, including musical practices, Bible class, rec class, arts & crafts, and any other activities in a constructive manner. </li><li>Administration of emergency first aid as needed and recording of such treatment, with proper documentation, to supervising staff. </li><li>Always remain with your assigned group of children, unless another staff member has relieved you for any necessary reason. </li><li>Attend all staff and training meetings unless directed otherwise by the Day Camp Director. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 16 years old </li></ul> <p>Education/Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience working with children a plus </li><li>Previous experience supervising camper desired </li><li>Willingness to work as part of the ministry team with other staff members or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities </li></ul> <p>Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of arts & crafts a plus </li><li>Music knowledge a plus </li></ul> <p>Computer Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Basic computer skills required </li></ul> <p>Certificates and Licenses:</p> <ul> <li>Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed </li><li>Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days </li></ul> <p>The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer.
