<p>About the Job</p> <p>General Statement of Responsibilities:</p> <p>This position has primary responsibility of assisting dentists in all phases of patient care.</p> <p>Work with students and other members of the University community and their families to obtain and maintain their optimum oral health.</p> <p>Detailed Job Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assists dentists in examining, treating, and caring for dental patients. </li><li>Prepares the patient for the dentist and lays out required instruments and supplies. </li><li>May give partial or complete prophylactic care and treatment to dental patients. </li><li>Examines and cleans teeth. </li><li>Treats gums and cares for other oral conditions in accordance with the instructions of a dentist. </li><li>Instructs patients in oral and dental hygiene. </li><li>May perform a preliminary examination of the oral cavity and surrounding structures. </li><li>Sterilizes and cares for dental instruments, supplies and medications. </li><li>Requisitions needed supplies. </li><li>Makes dietary analysis, salivary analysis and prepares smears. </li><li>Takes digital radiographs. </li><li>Make impressions and dental study models. </li><li>Establishes maintenance schedule for dental patients. </li><li>Maintains dental equipment in operatory and clinic in accordance with assigned schedules. </li><li>Assists with dental recall. </li><li>Process dental radiographs. </li><li>Administers local anesthetic and / or nitrous oxide analgesia (in accordance with treatment plan approved by a supervising dentist). </li><li>Completes referral documentation information to dental or medical specialists as directed by a supervising dentist. </li><li>Reviews patient medical and dental histories follow up on the information provided as needed </li><li>Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively. </li></ul> <p>These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited course in dental hygiene. </li><li>Minnesota licensure. </li><li>Successful completion of courses in the administration of nitrous oxide analgesia and local anesthesia (in accordance with the rules established by the MN Board of Dentistry). </li><li>Current CPR </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with computers </li><li>Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds </li></ul> <p>About the Department</p> <p>About Boynton Health, Dental Clinic</p> <p>Boynton.umn.edu</p> <p>Boynton Health serves the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, providing comprehensive health care with a public health approach to campus well-being.</p> <p>Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care for you in a culture that supports equity, inclusion and respect.
