<p>Description and Functions</p> <p>Open Until Filled</p> <p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is dedicated to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a Senior Construction and Field Survey Specialist to join our Construction Program in Laramie, Wyoming.</p> <p>This position assists the Resident Engineer in performing advanced engineering functions in support of transportation projects. </li></ul> <p>Click here for detailed information, oryou can watch this short video to learn about our benefit package!</p> <p>Want to see the full value of your compensation beyond salary?</p> <p>Explore our Total Compensation Calculator:https://compensationcalculator.wyo.gov</p> <p>For information on the Wyoming Department of Transportation's purpose, mission, vision, and values, please visit our website: Click Here</p> <p>Human Resource Contact: Mandy McMicheal/ 307-745-2111 /mandy.mcmicheal@wyo.gov</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.</p> <ul> <li>Performs Contract Administration duties. </li><li>Conducts a comprehensive verification of design plans and associated documents and submits engineering change proposals when required. </li><li>Supervises, advises, and schedules crew members. </li><li>Surveys, tests, inspects, and ensures safety and documentation associated with construction projects. </li><li>Ensures all construction-related activities are done promptly. </li><li>Conducts or arranges for crew training in computer software, survey procedures, safety and construction procedures, and practices. </li><li>Establishes preliminary project cost estimates by reviewing the project scope and estimating quantities. </li><li>Makes engineering recommendations after the project scope is determined and continually reviews and comments on plans as they develop. </li><li>Checks documentation and quantities of work for the contractor's payment. </li><li>Coordinated WYDOT projects with other states, federal, city, county entities, utility companies, and private landowners. </li><li>Communicate with other WYDOT programs to gather supplemental information to ensure schedules are met. </li><li>Directspositive public relations with people directly concerned with construction projects, including contractors, suppliers, landowners, businesses, and the traveling public. </li><li>Partners with contractors at all project phases to ensure that construction projects are completed on time, on budget, at an acceptable quality level, and in a safe manner. </li><li>Ensures WYDOT standards are being met. </li><li>Prepares daily and weekly reports. </li><li>Reviews proposed plans, reports, and data for details, accuracy, completeness, and changes as required. </li><li>Analyze designs and the field, and verify that the design matches existing conditions. </li><li>Calculates project quantities, including land area, earth movement, bill of materials, cost estimates, and verifies cost reports. </li><li>Prepares horizontal and vertical alignment calculations from preliminary survey data. </li><li>Resolves geometric and trigonometric problems encountered. </li><li>Annotates aerial photographs, takes measurements, field verifies utilizing survey level, and makes calculations from photographs. </li><li>Prepares preliminary designs and makes recommendations for construction projects; develops detailed plans. </li><li>Oversees moderate to major construction projects by documenting pay quantities, directing subordinates' work schedules, and working with contractors for quality control. </li><li>Ensures that materials sampling and testing are performed properly; audits material summaries for QA/QC purposes. </li><li>Responsible for all field survey work. </li><li>Trains subordinate personnel in proper procedures and methods of inspection, surveying, and documentation. </li><li>Communicates internally and externally regarding project information and courses of action/consequences on larger projects. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of methods and techniques of surveying and engineering drawing calculations. </li><li>Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of highway engineering and roadway planning, construction, and design. </li><li>Knowledge of computer software used in the design and calculation of project information. </li><li>Knowledge in the operation of Trimble Geodometer and GPSequipment. </li><li>Skills in surveying, material testing, documentation, computer, and calculator operation. </li><li>Skills in critical thinking and complex problem-solving. </li><li>Skills injudgment and decision-making. </li><li>Skills in material testing, including soils and aggregate, concrete, and asphalt. </li><li>Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and project documentation and ensure contractors adhere to appropriate documentation throughout projects. </li><li>Knowledge of WYDOT policies and procedures and engineering principles related to highway design and construction. </li><li>Knowledge of Standard Plans and their application of them on a site-specific basis. Knowledge of Geopak and Microstation. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education & Experience Substitution:</p> <p>3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Construction and Field Surveying) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Construction and Field Survey Specialist</p> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</p> <p>None</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Construction and Field Surveying) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Construction and Field Survey Specialist</p> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</p> <p>None</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements</p> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work in all weather conditions and terrain. </li><li>Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. </li><li>Ability to work in close proximity to heavy equipment. </li></ul> <p>NOTES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>FLSA: Non-Exempt</p> </li><li> <p>Travel is required.</p> </li><li> <p>Weekend work is required.</p> </li><li> <p>The Wyoming Department of Transportation is a Drug-Free Workplace.</p> </li><li> <p>E-Verify: WYDOT uses E-Verify, an Internet-based system, to confirm the eligibility of all newly hired employees to work in the United States.
