Life -Group Pay Type Non Exempt Appointment Type (A) Continuing Full-Time Hours Per Week 37.5 Number of weeks 44 weeks per year other - # of weeks 44 Benefits Eligible Full Benefits Geographical Regional Qualifies for Relocation Reimbursement Yes Work Schedule</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>General Scope of Duties</p> <p>The Director of Zachs Hillel House/College Chaplain will promote Jewish life on campus and integrate Jewish student life into the overall campus experience. The Director and Chaplain will support and develop the religious and cultural identity of Jewish students at Connecticut College and work closely with the Connecticut College Hillel student board to plan, organize and implement programming to meet the needs of Jewish students and to provide opportunities for all Connecticut College students to interact and learn. Responsibilities also include overseeing the management of the building and maintaining connections with Hillel International and the local Jewish community. The Director/Chaplain will report to the Director of Religious and Spiritual Programs and be part of a collaborative team of professionals in the Dean of Retention and Success division.</p> <p>General Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Foster and build Jewish community on campus by leading the planning and implementation of all programs related to Jewish identity and practice, including weekly Shabbat dinners, holiday and cultural observances, prayer services, and educational opportunities. </li><li>Serve as staff advisor to the Connecticut College Hillel student club by training and meeting regularly with Hillel student leadership and supporting them in planning and implementing programs and activities. </li><li>Manage the daily operations of Zachs Hillel House, including overseeing the budget; arranging the holiday and programming calendar; ordering equipment and supplies; liaising with facilities on building maintenance; and utilizing the space to support campus activities, including supervising the kosher kitchen and maintaining the Kashrut policy of Zachs Hillel House. </li><li>Provide pastoral support and counseling to students, staff, faculty and others, as appropriate. </li><li>Lead or hire rabbinic leadership for major Jewish holiday observances, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover and Yom HaShoah. </li><li>Serve as liaison to Hillel International and the local Jewish community. </li><li>Collaborate with the College Chaplains and participate in multi-faith programming sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Programs. Attend and actively participate in departmental and divisional staff meetings, retreats, and trainings. </li><li>Collaborate with relevant administrative offices, academic departments, and student organizations to deliver student support services and promote academic success. </li><li>Assist other professional staff in offering training and educational opportunities for various campus constituencies. </li><li>Participate as needed in various College ceremonies, including Baccalaureate, Commencement and vigils. </li></ul> <p>Education and Skills</p> <ul> <li>Rabbinic ordination or an advanced degree/experience in a related field. </li><li>Knowledge of Jewish religious and cultural traditions and experience in supporting a Jewish constituency. </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills. </li><li>Strong ethics and personal integrity. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Collegiality and strong interpersonal skills. </li><li>Some evening and weekend hours will be required. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience working in higher education with the knowledge of academic procedures and the culture of a liberal arts college. </li><li>Commitment to the spiritual and social development of college students or young adults. </li><li>Strong administrative and organizational skills and familiarity with office systems necessary to run an office. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands Driving Required No Salary Range $80,996.60-$72,635.60 Note</p> <p>Connecticut College is committed to fair and competitive compensation.
