<p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>Inspects construction of bridges, roadways, sidewalks, and appurtenances; within public right-of-way</p> <p>Ensures compliance with local ordinances and plans and specifications</p> <p>Responds to complaints and inquiries from the public, and resolves problems and concerns</p> <p>Mentors and oversees the training of Public Works Inspector I Examples of Work:</p> <p>UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION</p> <p>Reviews construction and planning drawings, and analyzes and interprets blueprints and other technical information</p> <p>Responds to the public regarding right-of-way questions and problems</p> <p>Attends meetings and provides information on right-of-way operations</p> <p>Inspects sites proposed for right-of-way closure and submits recommendations</p> <p>Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts</p> <p>Prepares samples of materials for laboratory testing</p> <p>Monitors work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed and materials used conform to plans & specifications</p> <p>Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods</p> <p>Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports</p> <p>Computes monthly estimates of work completed and approves quantities</p> <p>Validates levels, alignment, and elevation of installations, using surveyor's level and transit</p> <p>Conducts site distance, sidewalk, right-of-way obstructions, Handicap parking zone and fire hydrant inspections</p> <p>Performs bond release inspections, reviews claims, gathers information for legal proceedings, and testifies in court</p> <p>Trains Public Works Inspector I's on codes and specifications, procedures, and record-keeping</p> <p>Performs related work </p> <p>Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:</p> <p>Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work</p> <p>Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting</p> <p>Must be able to work in extreme varying weather conditions</p> <p>Walking, bending, stooping, climbing is required to access varying type of terrain including confined spaces and elevated surfaces</p> <p>Minimum Requirements:</p> <p>Associate's degree</p> <p>Construction Technology</p> <p>Engineering</p> <p>Engineering Technology</p> <p>Related field</p> <p>Two years of inspection in heavy highway, utility construction; survey or drafting</p> <p>Other Minimums:</p> <p>Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA</p> <p>Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license</p> <p>Must be on 24 hour call</p> <p>Must enroll in the University of Kentucky Technology Transfer Program (Road Scholars- Road Masters) upon employment</p> <p>Equivalency:</p> <p>An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted</p> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <p>Must possess or obtain Construction of Concrete, Aggregate Sampling Technician, Grade Leve 1 Technician, and Asphalt Field Technician certifications within 6 months of employment</p> <p>EOE</p>
