<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.</p> <p>The Office of Mental Health's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.</p> <p>As the Permanent Charge Nurse / Nurse Supervisor, working under minimal supervision of the Nurse Manager III, you will coordinate and provide direct patient care for adult patients, ages 18 and above. You will apply knowledge in age-specific criteria and advanced therapeutic interventions with psychiatric patients including those who have diverse backgrounds, disabilities and co-occurring disorders. You will be responsible for assessment of nursing needs and assists in planning, coordinating, assigning and evaluating nursing care in a designated area/lodge.</p> <p>Responsibilities for the Permanent Charge Nurse / Nurse Supervisor:</p> <ul> <li>Function as a Permanent Charge Nurse for assigned shift, may assume role of Nurse Manager III as assigned in his/her absence. Determine patient care needs and assigns staff duties based on patient acuity and nursing staff training/competencies. Adjust staff assignment when necessary and notify staff. Maintain the therapeutic milieu according to HPH Policy and Procedures, Standards of Care, and age-specific criteria and interventions, including those who have diverse backgrounds, disabilities and co-occurring disorders. </li><li>Make rounds on all patients, assess and evaluates condition of new patients, patients that are high risk and/or unstable, and provide direct care to patient(s). Document findings and nursing actions taken according to policy utilizing appropriate forms. Identify obvious symptoms of physical and emotional illnesses through observations and record analysis; completes on-going nursing care assessment and formulates plan of care for each patient which includes patient education and discharge planning. Ensure that required patient assessments/reassessments are completed and documented as required (daily/weekly/monthly). Participate and provide supervision of the preparation and administration of patient medication; participate and continually monitor this process. </li><li>Report and ensure the completion of the Unusual Occurrences, Seclusions, and/or Restraints documentation. Keep the Nurse Manager and/or Nurse Supervisor informed of potential adverse and safety conditions involving patients and/or staff. Complete 24 Hour Nursing report and submits it to the Nursing Supervisors Office. </li><li>Support and actively participate in the Nursing Performance Improvement activities. Notify Nurse Manager of findings and corrective actions taken if needed. </li><li>Observe and evaluate staff performance of assigned duties and ensures that all assignments are completed. Provide feedback to the Nurse Manager regarding staff performance and completes the EPMS as assigned. Participate in disciplinary action as needed. </li><li>Maintain clinical competency by attending and qualifying in all mandatory training classes (EX. MAPS, CPR, SCIES Modules, cross training and age-specific criteria) and 20 hours of non-mandatory training yearly. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience. Licensure as a registered nurse by the SC Board of Nursing. </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs. </li><li>Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Ability to work with repetitive patient behaviors. Possible exposure to blood/body fluids. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree in nursing; or a three (3) year diploma or an associate degree in nursing and one (1) year experience as a psychiatric nurse. </li><li>Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>Post hire, employee must:</p> <ul> <li>Have the ability to perform MANDT and emergency care during emergencies. </li><li>Have the ability to instruct and direct professional and non-professional nursing personnel. </li><li>Establish and maintain satisfactory working relationship with employees. </li><li>Establish and maintain confidence and cooperation of patients and families. </li><li>Be able to function effectively with a minimum of supervision and make judgements based upon general guidelines and policies. </li></ul> <p>Available Shift:</p> <ul> <li>11:00 PM - 07:30 AM </li></ul> <p>This includes every other weekend</p> <p>The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions including, but not limited, to lactation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.</p> <p>Supplemental questions are considered part of your official application.
