<p>Every year Community College of Vermont employs nearly 500 part-time faculty to teach its courses at 12 locations statewide and online, and we are always looking for enthusiastic, knowledgeable teachers. All faculty work part-time with a maximum of three courses each semester.</p> <p>Our Mission: The Community College of Vermont, a Vermont State College, supports and challenges all students in meeting their educational goals through an abiding commitment to access, affordability, and student success.</p> <p>The Community College of Vermont seeks applicants for a part-time faculty position to teach Introduction to Substance Use Disorders (3 Credits) in the Montpelier Center for the Fall 2025 semester.</p> <p>Semester Dates: 9/5/2025 - 12/15/2025</p> <p>Days and times: Fridays, 9:00-11:45 AM</p> <p>Location: Montpelier</p> <p>Course Description:</p> <p>This course is an introduction to the causes, symptoms, and stages of substance use disorders. Topics include factors which lead to substance use and abuse, signs and symptoms of abuse and addiction, stages of chemical dependency, and career opportunities for those interested in substance use disorder counseling and treatment. This course includes six hours of relevant ethics training.</p> <p>Essential Objectives:</p> <ol> <li> <p>List commonly abused substances and describe their effects on the body, the brain, and behavior.</p> </li><li> <p>Compare the various models and theories of addiction.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify physical symptoms and behavioral signs of substance abuse and identify the stages of dependency.</p> </li><li> <p>Describe psychological, sociological, physiological, and cultural features that function as risk and protective factors in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify and describe modalities and resources used in the treatment of substance use disorders.</p> </li><li> <p>Understand the process of recovery from substance use disorders.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify career opportunities in substance use disorder counseling and treatment professions and formulate a plan which addresses educational, certification, and licensure requirements for a chosen career.</p> </li><li> <p>Understand ethical standards guiding professional conduct with clients in the context of HIPAA and the Code of Federal Regulations Title 42, Part 2.</p> </li></ol> <p>Requirements: Master's degree required.</p> <p>Per VSC policy we are unable to offer remote employment for individuals who reside in North Dakota, Washington, Ohio, Wyoming, or outside of the USA.</p> <p>CCV values individual differences that can be engaged in the service of learning.
