The Water Recovery Division (previously Wastewater Division) of the Utilities Department is dedicated to the prevention of water pollution and the protection of our environment through the following areas of responsibility: Operation of the treatment system at the Wastewater Reclamation Facility; Maintenance of the process equipment and facilities at the Wastewater Reclamation Facility; Industrial Pretreatment, and more.</p> <p>The Industrial Pretreatment Technician performs routine and technical work assisting in administering the City and County of Broomfield's Industrial Pretreatment and Reclaimed Wastewater (Reuse) Programs.</p> <p>Total Compensation Package</p> <p>Salary Range: $34.64 - $46.86/hour</p> <p>Free Recreation Center Pass (Gym & Pool)</p> <p>14 days paid vacation + 10 sick days per year + 12 paid holidays </p> <p>Medical, dental, & vision insurance (Wellness discount on insurance premiums available)</p> <p>6% employer retirement match</p> <p>Paid Plant Operator training</p> <ul> <li> <p>Conducts scheduled monitoring (i.e. sampling, flow measurements, and inspections) of wastewater within the City's wastewater collection system; individual sewage disposal systems; oil and grease interceptors and traps within the City's wastewater service area; reuse irrigation users within the City's watershed. </p> </li><li> <p>Investigate, collect, and compile essential information required to develop, write, and issue permits including Industrial Pretreatment, oil & grease, individual sewage disposal, reuse, etc. </p> </li><li> <p>Conducts investigations into complaints, concerns, possible permit and or discharge violations, etc. as it may relate to Industrial Pretreatment, reuse, and individual sewage disposal systems. </p> </li><li> <p>Assists in activities related to enforcement of City ordinance provisions for Industrial Pretreatment, and reuse irrigation users, including field monitoring. </p> </li><li> <p>Assists with program reviews to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and ordinances. </p> </li><li> <p>Collects and preserves samples from various locations, which may affect water quality, and reports such conditions to appropriate personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Conducts chemical and/or microbiological analyses with precision and accuracy using standard written procedures or as directed by the supervisor. </p> </li><li> <p>Maintains records, including computer data entry, file maintenance, and related clerical tasks. Prepares reports as required. </p> </li><li> <p>Assists in managing compliance databases to monitor adherence to permit requirements regarding discharges, reporting, sampling, and inspections. </p> </li><li> <p>Assists with assessing compliance history of permitted facilities to determine appropriate enforcement options; recommends legal enforcement actions and develops supporting documentation; prepares and issues violation notices, and corrective correspondence, and directs orders; provides testimony in legal proceedings as needed. </p> </li><li> <p>Performs various duties associated with pollution prevention activities. Cleans, maintains, and calibrates equipment and instrumentation; troubleshoots equipment problems; performs routine cleaning/decontamination/disinfection of glassware, working surfaces, equipment, and facility.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in responding to citizen inquiries and complaints concerning water quality and other items of environmental concern. </p> </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li> <p>High School Diploma/GED - required</p> </li><li> <p>Wastewater Plant Operator D Certification - preferred</p> </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <ul> <li>2 years experience required in wastewater treatment, laboratory, stormwater, or industrial pretreatment. </li></ul> <p>Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience. </p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check, sex-offender registry, DMV check, and pre-placement physical.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must obtain 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification within 1 year of employment. </p> </li><li> <p>The noise level in the environment is moderately noisy. </p> </li><li> <p>Regular, predictable attendance required</p> </li><li> <p>Work involves on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergencies as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday. </p> </li><li> <p>Some evening and weekend hours.</p> </li><li> <p>In-person customer/client/team meetings are required.</p> </li><li> <p>Physical demands are described as heavy (exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects). </p> </li><li> <p>Required to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.</p> </li><li> <p>Required to communicate and/or detect sounds</p> </li><li> <p>Required to sit, kneel, or crawl</p> </li><li> <p>Data entry and other tasks may require sitting at a computer for several hours. </p> </li><li> <p>Workers may be exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions during sampling and/or inspection tasks.
