<p>Kforce is seeking a Junior Scala Engineer to join our team in support of a major telecommunications client. This is a remote contract opportunity for an early-career engineer who is eager to learn, grow, and make an impact within a large-scale data platform environment.</p> <p>Summary: Our client is seeking an engineer with 2-3 years of experience, a strong foundation in Scala, solid familiarity with Kafka, and hands-on experience building streaming data pipelines. This is a highly technical role focused on developing and maintaining scalable, reliable data systems that power critical business operations.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Design and build scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and deliver datasets for internal teams and external stakeholders </li><li>Develop and maintain real-time streaming and hourly batch-processing pipelines </li><li>Implement new data exports and update business logic across multiple data feeds </li><li>Contribute to high-volume, billion-scale streaming data infrastructure </li><li>Ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity throughout ingestion and processing </li></ul> <p>Typical Day-to-Day:</p> <ul> <li>Participate in a short morning stand-up (approx. 15 minutes) and a developer sync (10-30 minutes) </li><li>Enjoy focused development time with minimal meetings outside weekly team syncs </li><li>Work within a 2-week agile sprint cycle with Tuesday production releases during business hours </li><li>Core working hours follow Mountain Standard Time (MST) </li><li>Participate in an on-call rotation (Mon-Fri, 8am-7pm MST, approximately once every six weeks)* 2-3 years of professional Scala development with strong functional programming foundations </li><li>Experience with Apache Spark Structured Streaming (Scala) including migrations, new feature development, and performance optimization </li><li>Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, including producer/consumer offset management and at-least-once/at-most-once semantics </li><li>Familiarity with container orchestration concepts (Kubernetes preferred) </li><li>Basic exposure to AWS services (S3, Athena, Lambda, IAM, EMR) </li><li>Strong SQL skills for data exploration and validation </li><li>Experience supporting large-scale or high-volume data pipelines </li><li>Comfortable working in a Mac development environment </li><li>Nice to have: Experience with Terraform </li></ul>
