<p>Job Description</p> <p>210 Days</p> <p>Job Title: Middle School Assistant Principal</p> <p>Type of Position: Certified</p> <p>Reports to: Middle School Principal</p> <p>Position Purpose: The Middle School Assistant Principal assists the Principal in the administration and supervision of the school. The Assistant Principal's primary responsibilities include overseeing student behavior, improving student attendance, and managing middle school athletics. The role involves fostering a safe, inclusive, and disciplined school environment while ensuring alignment with the school's vision and district policies.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.</p> <ol> <li>Student Behavior & Discipline </li></ol> <ul> <li>Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and structured school climate. </li><li>Develop and enforce behavioral expectations, discipline policies, and intervention strategies to support student success. </li><li>Implement restorative practices and other proactive behavior management approaches. </li><li>Provide coaching and support for teachers on effective classroom management. </li><li>Serve as the primary point of contact for discipline referrals, ensuring fair, consistent, and timely resolution of behavior incidents. </li><li>Track, analyze, and utilize student behavior data to drive decision-making and improve school culture. </li><li>Work with families and community resources to develop behavior support plans. </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Student Attendance & Engagement </li></ol> <ul> <li>Monitor student attendance trends and implement intervention strategies to improve daily attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. </li><li>Work with families, social workers, and community partners to address barriers to attendance (e.g., transportation, health, home situations). </li><li>Develop and implement school-wide attendance initiatives to encourage high attendance rates. </li><li>Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations related to student attendance. </li><li>Conduct home visits, student conferences, and parent meetings as needed to support attendance improvement efforts. </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>Middle School Athletics & Extracurricular Programs </li></ol> <ul> <li>Oversee the middle school athletic program, ensuring compliance with district and state athletic regulations. </li><li>Support the recruitment and hiring of coaches and extracurricular staff in collaboration with the Athletic Director. </li><li>Promote student participation in athletics and extracurricular activities to improve school engagement. </li><li>Ensure that all athletic and extracurricular programs align with the school's mission and values. </li><li>Manage budgets, facilities, and schedules related to school athletics. </li><li>Foster positive relationships between student-athletes, coaches, and the broader school community. </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>School Climate & Culture </li></ol> <ul> <li>Support a positive and inclusive school culture by building relationships with students, families, and staff. </li><li>Develop programs that promote student leadership, engagement, and character development. </li><li>Assist with planning and implementing school events, assemblies, and celebrations. </li><li>Collaborate with school counselors and support staff to enhance social-emotional learning. </li><li>Monitor and address incidents of bullying, harassment, and conflicts to maintain a safe school environment. </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>Administrative & Operational Support </li></ol> <ul> <li>Assist the Principal with day-to-day school operations. </li><li>Serve as a liaison between administration, faculty, and students. </li><li>Assist in the development of school policies, schedules, and emergency plans. </li><li>Supervise hallways, cafeterias, and extracurricular activities to ensure student safety and compliance with school rules. </li><li>Participate in the evaluation and support of staff as needed. </li><li>Assist with state and federal compliance requirements related to discipline, attendance, and athletics. </li></ul> <ol start="6"> <li>Communication & Stakeholder Engagement </li></ol> <ul> <li>Maintain open communication with students, parents, and staff regarding discipline, attendance, and athletics. </li><li>Develop and distribute communications and updates related to student expectations, attendance policies, and athletic programs. </li><li>Work with local community organizations to provide additional support for students. </li><li>Foster relationships with parents through conferences, outreach programs, and family engagement events. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Education: Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field. </li><li>Certification: Valid Indiana Administrative License or equivalent certification. </li><li>Experience: Prior teaching experience required; administrative or leadership experience preferred. </li><li>Skills & Competencies: </li><li>Strong understanding of student behavior management and discipline practices. </li><li>Knowledge of attendance improvement strategies and intervention supports. </li><li>Experience with athletics program oversight and extracurricular management. </li><li>Effective communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills. </li><li>Ability to analyze and use data-driven decision-making to improve student outcomes. </li><li>Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
