No VP Area U of U Health - Academics Department 00241 - Biomedical Informatics Location Other City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range 35.00 Close Date 05/22/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>The Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah is seeking a motivated undergraduate intern for a summer position assisting with data science analyses for the Gene Kids Project, a research initiative focused on Whole Genome Sequencing to improve diagnosis and treatment of pediatric genetic disorders. More information can be found here: https://uofuhealth.utah.edu/newsroom/news/2024/08/new-collaboration-aims-provide-genetic-diagnoses-thousands-of-kids</p> <p>This is a temporary summer position that is anticipated to be active from mid-June to mid-August.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assist with data-analysis and modeling related to genomic datasets: This includes processing whole-genome sequencing data from pediatric patients and applying statistical or computational methods to identify variants associated with rare genetic disorders. </li><li>Contribute to interpretation and reporting of results: This involves helping translate findings into clear biological insights and supporting the preparation of summaries, visualizations, and manuscript figures for research and clinical collaborators. </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications Preferences</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Strong background in computer science, statistics, or a related field </li><li>Proficiency in R and Python (required) </li><li>Coursework in statistics, including multivariate regression and model selection </li><li>Experience with tools, workflows, and file formats used in whole-genome analysis for Mendelian disease is highly desirable </li><li>Current undergraduate student </li></ul> <p>Special Instructions Summary</p> <p>Along with your resume and cover letter, please provide one reference that we may contact.</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
