<p>Department: Student Services Duty Year: 183 days (Start the same day as teachers end 1 day earlier) Supervisor: EL Coordinator/Special Education Director Status: Non Exempt Employee</p> <p>Position Overview & Responsibilities</p> <p>The English Learner (EL) paraprofessional's primary responsibility is providing supplemental instruction for identified EL students under the direction of the EL and classroom teachers in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The instruction is focused on improving the English language acquisition abilities of students whose primary home language is not English.</p> <p>Provides supplemental instruction for identified EL students under the direction of the EL and classroom teachers, individually or in small group settings, in accordance with the students' individual language acquisition goals.</p> <p>Supervises EL students and assists them with self-help and behavioral management skills. ? Recognizes achievement, effort, and positive attributes of students.</p> <p>Assists the EL and classroom teachers with lesson material preparation.</p> <p>Communicates effectively with teachers and other district staff.</p> <p>Attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions as directed.</p> <p>Performs other related duties as assigned.</p> <p>Please Note: Due to the changing language learning needs within the district, EL staffing placements can vary from year to year to ensure current students are receiving the necessary support required to improve their language acquisition abilities. This position is for one school year and will be terminated shall the district not require on-going support.</p> <p>Requirements & Qualifications</p> <p>Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two years of post secondary education or successful completion of the ParaPro; ability to work with staff to provide services to students with limited English language; proficiency in English required; ability to provide services to students in academic content areas; previous experience in working with limited English students or adults preferred; maintain confidentiality of student and family information as required under FERPA.</p>
