<p>To advance the college's mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.</p> <p>GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: </p> <p>The Human Resources Advisor serves as the first point of contact for employee grievances, conducts investigations, and recommends solutions to resolve conflicts. It includes reviewing and approving disciplinary actions while ensuring compliance with policies and advising supervisors on best practices for managing performance and resolving disputes. The position also manages FMLA, background checks, workers' compensation and unemployment claims, and coordinates employee accommodation requests.</p> <p>The typical work schedule for this position will be in office Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. This position is located on Kirkwood Main Campus.</p> <p>UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES: </p> <ul> <li>Advocate for Continual Improvement- empowering each other to identify opportunities for excellence. </li><li>Collaborate with Mutual Accountability- working together with a willingness to take ownership and account for our actions. </li><li>Champion Service- anticipating needs and create a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment. </li><li>Perseverance- commitment to excellence even in the face of adversity or delay in achieving success. </li><li>Lead- regardless of title, through positive influence. </li><li>Serve as the primary point of contact for employee grievances, conduct investigations and recommend appropriate solutions or corrective actions to resolve conflicts in a timely and effective manner. </li><li>Review and approve employee disciplinary actions ensuring documentation is thorough and compliant with college's policies. </li><li>Advise and coach supervisors on best practice for managing employee performance, addressing grievances, and resolving conflicts. </li><li>Manage FMLA and workers' compensation claims, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and college policies, and coordinate with employees and management on the process, required documentation and timelines. </li><li>Facilitate the interactive process for employee accommodations under the ADA, ensuring a fair and legally compliant approach to meeting employee needs. </li><li>Manage unemployment claims and represent the college in fact-findings and appeal hearings. </li><li>Oversee the employee background screening process. </li><li>Provide guidance to managers and staff on HR policies, performance management, conflict resolution, employee relations best practices, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. </li><li>Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of employee grievances, accommodations, disciplinary actions, and all other HR-related activities. Prepare summary reports and recommendations for leaders. </li><li>Assist with College's safety initiative to ensure a safe and accident- free work environment. </li><li>Perform other related work duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Be able and willing to represent the College in a positive and professional manner. </li><li>Proficient knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Software, especially Excel. </li><li>Work effectively and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions be positive and helpful under the pressure of deadlines. </li><li>Excellent communication skills (written and oral). </li><li>The ability to work with minimal supervision. </li><li>Strong organization and multitasking skills. </li><li>Ability to read and understand complex written and verbal instructions. </li><li>Must be accurate and detail oriented. </li><li>Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences. </li></ul> <p>The statements contained herein reflect general details as necessary to describe the essential job duties/responsibilities and performance expectations of the job, which should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.
