<p>Western Michigan University invites applications for the position of academic year, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry on Main Campus in Kalamazoo, with the expectation that the successful candidate will contribute to instruction in physical chemistry and establish a vibrant research program.</p> <p>Major Duties</p> <ul> <li>Teach physical chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including both lecture and lab instruction. </li><li>Establish a globally-recognized research program that includes graduate and undergraduate students in the successful candidate's specific area(s) of expertise. </li><li>Actively seek external funding to support research and scholarly activities. </li><li>Conduct scholarly research and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. </li><li>Mentor and advise students. </li><li>A strong commitment to inclusion and student success. </li><li>Service to the department, college, and university. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>PhD in chemistry, physical chemistry, or a closely-related field from an accredited institution completed by August 2026. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Postdoctoral Experience. </li><li>Track record of excellence in research. </li><li>Experience with evidence-based teaching practices. </li><li>Laboratory instruction experience. </li><li>An interest in instructional innovation. </li><li>Departmental leadership potential. </li><li>Evidence of a strong commitment to working with students, faculty, and staff with different cultural and economic backgrounds. </li><li>Demonstrated experience supporting and engaging students from diverse backgrounds. </li></ul> <p>Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <p>Required application documents will include: 1) a cover letter describing qualifications, accomplishments, and professional experiences related to the position, 2) a Curriculum Vitae, including a credential summary, 3) a document outlining future research plans, including potential opportunities for external funding, 4) a teaching statement, which should include evidence of teaching effectiveness and plans for engaging a diverse student population, and 5) a list of three professional references with titles and current contact information.
