<p>Stamford Health, a well-established, award-winning Healthcare System with multiple locations in CT has an opportunity for a Respiratory Therapy Extern!</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>Responsible for supporting the overall operations of the Respiratory Therapy Department. Delivers and removes respiratory care equipment to ensure good working condition and sufficient supply. Responsible for the ventilator and non-invasive ventilator fleet which encompasses the availability, cleaning, set up, operational verification and distribution. Acts to support respiratory care in accordance with the departmental, clinical, and academic verification under the supervision and direction of a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner.</p> <p>To enable a student entering the final year of a Respiratory Therapy associate or baccalaureate degree program to acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors to deliver safe, quality care that meets defined (organizational or professional society) standards of practice in a comprehensive non-critical setting under the preceptorship of an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist.</p> <p>MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Manages and distributes equipment to ensure and maintain adequate supply.</p> </li><li> <p>Checks all areas for respiratory care equipment, including the RT soiled equipment room and returns equipment to the appropriate area.</p> </li><li> <p>Gathers and distributes equipment, on a daily basis, to all respiratory hospital areas to ensure an adequate supply for patient care.</p> </li><li> <p>Gathers dirty equipment daily and ensures delivery to central sterile for processing.</p> </li><li> <p>Inventories storage areas to maintain an adequate supply level, reporting supply needs to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Receives and verifies number of supplies delivered, places supplies in correct location and notifies appropriate individuals of delivery discrepancies.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensures supplies are stored and maintained according to regulatory standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Responds to equipment requests to ensure an efficient and orderly process and assist charge therapist, clinical leader, and manager as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensures ventilators are set up correctly and are in designated storage areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Responds to therapists' requests for specific equipment in a timely manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Cleans and sets up equipment, ventilators and non-invasive devices; maintains equipment and the respiratory care work areas to ensure efficient operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes all related paperwork when appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains the environment of care in department work areas on a daily basis (tidies department and organizes storage areas )</p> </li><li> <p>Removes ventilator from patients' room and cleans according to infection control standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Sets up clean ventilators, performs established safety checking and labels ventilator, notifying clinical coordinator, clinical leader or manager of any problems. Periodically wipes down other respiratory care equipment as evidenced by equipment cleanliness and as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Removes from service any broken or malfunctioning equipment and any equipment requiring preventive maintenance, completes appropriate paperwork, and notifies appropriate individual(s).</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors and maintains equipment availability and notifies clinical coordinator, clinical leader, or respiratory manager of ventilator and or equipment needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Delivers and picks up equipment from Central Sterile as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensures each work area has appropriate number and type of ventilator set up.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides and supports clinical operational support under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner.</p> </li><li> <p>Support respiratory care services in accordance with departmental practice guideline(s) and at the direction/supervision of a licensed respiratory care practitioner.</p> </li><li> <p>Support clinical patient care under the scope of respiratory care in accordance with and verification of departmental competency validation based on the Respiratory Therapy Clinical Coordinator and Respiratory Therapy Clinical Leader.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate competency and clinical acumen of respiratory care theories, concepts, and best practice in accordance to departmental policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures as established by the organization.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate and maintain current/active required credentials such as BLS, ACLS and PALS.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates professional work behavior as outlined by the Service Standards and Success factors established by the Staford Hospital.</p> </li><li> <p>Complies with departmental organizational policies and procedures and adheres to external agency requirements.</p> </li><li> <p>Attends Respiratory Care Department staff meetings and is responsible for knowing the contents discussed at all meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains their clinical expertise by attending continuing education classes, respiratory seminars, meetings, and self-improvement programs as appropriate and required.</p> </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Must be actively enrolled in an accredited CoARC approved Respiratory Therapy program and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>BLS certification required.
