<p>Work Location: Robinson Preserve 1704 99th Street Northwest, Bradenton, Florida 34209</p> <p>Work Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:00 am - 4:30 pm, weekend and holiday shifts may be required based on staffing.</p> <p>Expected Starting Hourly Range: $17.36 - $21.70</p> <p>Performs tasks related to natural resource management and protection, recreational opportunities, visitor services, and security and maintenance occurring on areas identified under the Manatee County Natural Resources Department, Resource Management Division. Work is performed at all locations within the Resource Management inventory.</p> <p>Note: Position level and salary will be dependent on qualifications (DOQ).</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Indoor office and outdoor field environment. Performs strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions. Traverses uneven or rugged terrain. High noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting and carrying equipment up to 30 lbs. alone and up to 60 lbs. with assistance. Regularly required to drive county vehicles as part of the duties of the job. Able to climb and descend equipment and ladders. Able to bend, stoop, crawl, and reach. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Must complete annual pack-test per National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards for wildlife firefighters at the "moderate" or "arduous" level. Occasionally required to work other than normal business hours, including nights and weekends.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.</p> <p>All Levels:</p> <p>Participates in all aspects of land management activities, including prescribed fire, mechanical treatment, restoration efforts, and herbicide applications.</p> <p>Properly applies chemicals, including herbicides, surfactant, and diluents and according to product label to targeted invasive-exotic plants to maintain the functional integrity of native plant communities. Records and maintains chemical inventory and records of chemical applications. Stores and disposes of chemicals according to applicable federal, state and local rules and regulations.</p> <p>Conducts daily maintenance activities including mowing, cleaning restrooms and other facilities, trash removal, and minor building and equipment repairs. Operates and maintains related equipment, such as tractors, disc harrows, and bush hogs.</p> <p>Staffs division recreation programs and facilities including the wildlife management hunt program, camping areas, and kayak launches.</p> <p>Promotes department programs to the public. Provides information and education to visitors. Enforces preserve rules when needed.</p> <p>Responsible for property surveillance. Reports unauthorized access and vandalism to proper law enforcement agencies and supervisor.</p> <p>Follows all established safety standards and procedures in order to protect self, other employees, and the public in wilderness or parks settings. Thinks and acts quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergency situations. Uses correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.</p> <p>Performs computer data entry.</p> <p>Attends job-specific training classes as assigned by supervisor.</p> <p>Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.</p> <p>Ranger I:</p> <p>Promotes department programs to the public. Provides information and education to visitors. Enforces preserve rules when needed.</p> <p>Ranger II:</p> <p>Prepares and monitors reports related to land management tasks and recreational use.</p> <p>Performs computer data entry and basic GIS/GPS data collection.</p> <p>All levels:</p> <p>High school diploma or equivalent.</p> <p>Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.</p> <p>Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.</p> <p>Ranger I:</p> <p>One (1) or more years of experience in conservation, land management, natural resource management, grounds maintenance, lawn maintenance, law enforcement, code enforcement, or site security.</p> <p>Valid Florida Pesticide Applicator License with Natural Areas Endorsement required or must obtain within one (1) year of hire.</p> <p>Must complete Arduous or Moderate Pack Test within one (1) year of hire and annually prior to June 1st each fiscal year.</p> <p>Must successfully complete the National Wildfire Coordinating Group Curricula within one year of hire, including Firefighter Training (S-130), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), and ICS 100/200.</p> <p>Ranger II:</p> <p>Three (3) or more years of experience in conservation, land management, natural resource management, grounds maintenance, lawn maintenance, law enforcement, code enforcement , or site security.</p> <p>Two (2) or more years of experience in the use of prescribed fire.</p> <p>Valid Florida Pesticide Applicator License with Natural Areas Endorsement required.</p> <p>Natural Areas Training Academy Certificate in Natural Areas Management desired.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <p>All levels:</p> <p>Good high-school level math skills in order determine proper chemical application quantities and rates and to calibrate application equipment.</p> <p>General knowledge and understanding of potential safety hazards and applicable safety precautions needed for the protection of the public and employees in wilderness or parks settings.</p> <p>General knowledge and understanding of native Florida plant communities, exotic plant species, appropriate eradication techniques, and proper use of herbicides.</p> <p>General knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.</p> <p>General knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties.</p> <p>Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, supervisor, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to communicate routine information.</p> <p>Capable of working under moderate supervision.</p> <p>Ranger I:</p> <p>Able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Organizes own work and completes tasks within assigned timeframes. Able to resolve routine situations and problems.</p> <p>Ranger II:</p> <p>Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to resolve situations and problems that may require interpretation or minor adjustments to working methods.</p> <p>Good knowledge Florida Exotic Pest Plant (FLEPPC) Category One invasive-exotic plant species list.</p> <p>Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties, including federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to department-managed lands, hunting, and recreation.</p> <p>Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, supervisor, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to communicate routine information.</p>
