<p>Position Summary</p> <p>State Patrol Sergeants direct and supervise State Patrol Troopers and Inspectors responsible for law enforcement goals and objectives; assist in developing, implementing, and managing short-range and long-range programs; rotate as district duty supervisor by monitoring and directing operational activities; provide public relations liaison duties with the public, other law enforcement agencies, and the media; provide technical expertise relating to traffic law enforcement, policy analysis, short-range and mid-range program planning, program implementation, and program evaluation; prepare budget issue papers and write research reports; and recommend policy and program improvements.</p> <p>Knowledge, skills, and abilities of a successful candidate may include:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of traffic laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor vehicle operation. </li><li>Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to traffic law enforcement; knowledge of criminal law </li><li>Knowledge of judicial procedures and practices including: theory and method investigatory techniques, extent and limits of statutory arrest and use of force authority. </li><li>Knowledge of supervisory principles, techniques, and methods to monitor and evaluate employee performance. </li><li>Interpersonal skills </li><li>Knowledge of the National Incident Management System/ Incident Command System </li><li>Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the development and presentation of training materials </li></ul> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>This position is in schedule-range (81-03) with a rate up to $54.26 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>This state agency does not sponsor work visas.
