<p>Title: Counselor</p> <p>Agency: Germanna Community College</p> <p>Location: Fredericksburg - 630</p> <p>FLSA: Nonexempt</p> <p>Hiring Range: 30.35 -$37.94; state benefits do not apply</p> <p>Full Time or Part Time: Part Time</p> <p>Additional Detail</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Germanna Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. As a comprehensive community college, Germanna provides quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford.</p> <p>This position supports student retention and progress toward academic goal completion. The Counselor intervenes to help students address external barriers to staying successful in school. This position focuses on advising interventions and case management of special populations and at-risk students.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Counsel students at risk of failing/dropping out by responding to early alert Navigate alerts and other referrals from faculty and staff. </li><li>Counsel students in crisis to de-escalate, stabilize and refer to appropriate mental health resources. </li><li>Assist students with identifying and connecting with life basic resources which help address external barriers to staying successful in school. </li><li>Provide advising interventions and develop academic success plans which foster retention and completion. </li><li>Provide focused counseling support to at-risk populations and vulnerable student groups (such as foster youth, undocumented students, housing and food insecure, personal concerns, and others). </li><li>Assist with Great Expectations program planning and implementation. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li><li>Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Services or closely related field. </li><li>Possess strong counseling skills related to supporting student academic and personal development, in an academic environment resulting in retention and goal completion </li><li>Maintain currency in community resources that can assist at-risk students in need. </li><li>Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to utilize the college systems and tools such as Navigate, Outlook, SIS, and others, to accurately assist students. </li><li>Ability to administer and interpret assessment results and review transcripts in order to accurately academically advise students for enrollment. </li><li>Commitment to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members. </li><li>Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and personal information. </li><li>Ability to engage professionally with public, faculty, staff and students to effectively help. </li><li>Ability to effectively plan and speak professionally in front of groups, conducting workshops and presenting in meetings. </li><li>Evidence of effective organization and time management skills to effectively execute job duties in a fast paced, public facing environment. </li></ul> <p>Additional Considerations:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in a community college counseling center. </li><li>Ability and experience in stabilization of distressed and/or de-escalation of upset students. </li><li>Bilingual fluency with English and another language </li></ul>
