<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor position from chemists in analytical biochemistry. DNS houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental science undergraduate programs and graduate programs in chemistry, marine estuarine and environmental sciences, and toxicology creating an outstanding collaborative environment. We seek candidates who have the capacity to teach to a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in industry, government, and graduate and professional schools.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses in support of our </li></ul> <p>ACS-certified biochemistry and chemistry programs and courses in the</p> <p>candidate's specific areas of expertise.</p> <ul> <li>Create a strong, collaborative research program in biochemistry, </li></ul> <p>metabolomics, and biomolecule detection that complements research</p> <p>across the School of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (SANS) in the</p> <p>environmental and toxicology programs.</p> <ul> <li>Secure funding from various agencies to support his or her research. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>PhD in Chemistry from an accredited institution. </li><li>Experience teaching and/or mentoring undergraduates and implementing </li></ul> <p>research projects.</p> <p>Required Knowlege/Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Research skills related to the isolation, detection, purification of biological </li></ul> <p>and environmental metabolites.</p> <ul> <li>Ability to develop an independent research program in this area. · </li><li>Desire to develop pedagogical skills and teach general chemistry and </li></ul> <p>biochemistry.</p> <ul> <li>Strong writing skills. </li><li>Ability to motivate and inspire a diverse student body to be successful </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. </li><li>May require lifting up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and </li></ul> <p>internally.</p> <ul> <li>Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. </li></ul> <p>Preferences: N/A</p> <p>Licenses/ Certifications: N/A</p> <p>Additional Job Details</p> <p>Required Application Materials: Qualified candidates should submit (1) a cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae including publication list, (3) a statement of teaching and mentorship philosophy, (4) a statement that describes the applicant's prior and current research and their vision and plans for future research, (5) a statement that describes the applicant's commitment to and experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and (6) the names of three current, professional references to include email addresses and telephone numbers.
