<p>THE ROLE: State Policy Advocate</p> <p>American Student Assistance (ASA) is national nonprofit that is changing the way kids learn about careers and prepare for their futures through access to career-readiness information and experiences.</p> <p>ASA fulfills its mission through free digital-first direct experiences, philanthropy, advocacy, thought leadership, groundbreaking research, and impact investing. We believe that exploring career possibilities, as early as middle school, and providing access to education-to-career pathways aligned with one's passions and goals will result in greater confidence and long-term success for all students.</p> <p>We are looking for a State Policy Advocate who will be responsible for partnering with the broad Social Impact team on internal-facing and external-facing projects that advance ASA's organizational priorities, particularly around a new state-level strategy and workstream.</p> <p>What You'll Do:</p> <ul> <li>In collaboration with ASA's Policy & Advocacy team, create and execute a strategy for state level advocacy for ASA's core issues. </li><li>Develop a policy platform and package tailored for the Governor in each target state based on their state's findings and unique needs. </li><li>Develop relationships with state legislators and state agencies, local/state advocates, and other stakeholders, such as, school systems, trade associations, think tanks, business groups, parents, and policymaker staff, either in person or remotely. </li><li>Facilitate the creation, leadership and execution of state-level advocacy campaigns on priority issues. </li><li>Track, monitor and analyze relevant state legislation. </li></ul> <p>About You:</p> <ul> <li>5+ years of hands-on experience with education or labor policy, government relations, or non-profit advocacy at the state level. Must have experience working with state legislative bodies. </li><li>Experience with policy analysis and running advocacy campaigns necessary. </li><li>Proven ability to research, interpret and simplify both verbally and in writing complex legislative issues. </li><li>Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop actionable insights. </li><li>Knowledge of policies and education systems ASA seeks to influence. </li></ul> <p>Why ASA?</p> <p>ASA offers a wide range of perks and benefits to Associates, including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision healthcare plans, a retirement plan (plus match), weekly lunches, commuter benefits, and tuition reimbursement.</p> <p>We also heavily prioritize a healthy work/life balance, which is why we offer all full-time associates generous PTO options, Summer Fridays (every Friday off between Memorial Day and Labor Day), and a company holiday break between December 25th and January 1st.</p> <p>ASA works in a Hybrid schedule (2) two days a week in our Boston HQ.
