<p>General Function</p> <p>Central Piedmont Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Corporate and Continuing Education (CE) instructors are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>I. Mastery of Subject Matter</p> <ul> <li>Qualified candidates must be proficient in teaching topics related to beer, wine, and spirits, including draft system operation, mixology, and beverage service standards </li><li>Sensory evaluation, and responsible alcohol service through education or industry experience </li><li>Candidates should be knowledgeable of brewing, bar, and hospitality operations, including taproom and bar service practices </li><li>Beverage preparation techniques and beverage management systems that are used in breweries, restaurants, and bars </li><li>Developing and implementing a comprehensive bartending curriculum and course materials </li><li>Teaching students about different types of alcohol, their flavors, and suitable combinations </li><li>Instructing students on how to create traditional and innovative cocktails </li><li>Demonstrating proper techniques for pouring, shaking, stirring, and serving drinks </li><li>Teach customer service principles, including how to interact with customers and handle difficult situations </li><li>Providing lessons on health and safety regulations, including responsible alcohol service </li><li>Organizing practical examinations to assess students' skills and knowledge </li><li>Providing feedback to students, addressing their strengths and areas for improvement </li><li>Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and new cocktail recipes </li></ul> <p>II. Teaching Performance</p> <ul> <li>Teach a course(s) appropriate to their field or discipline </li><li>Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning </li><li>Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students </li><li>Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs </li><li>Employ available instructional technology, i.e., the internet, interactive technology, when appropriate </li><li>Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments </li><li>Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives </li><li>Develop, update, and post course syllabi promptly </li></ul> <p>III. Evaluation of Student Learning</p> <ul> <li>Establish meaningful student learning outcomes for courses/programs </li><li>Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes </li><li>Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning </li><li>Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to the division administrator each semester according to established deadlines </li><li>Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances </li></ul> <p>IV. Support of College Policies and Procedures</p> <ul> <li>Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment </li><li>Teach non-credit courses within the field or discipline as needed </li><li>Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of student information </li><li>Record grades and provide attendance data in accordance with College Policies and Procedures </li></ul> <p>V. Participation in College, Division, and Program</p> <ul> <li>Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators </li><li>Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team </li></ul> <p>VI. Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs</p> <ul> <li>Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans </li><li>Contribute to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels </li><li>Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the college and its constituents </li><li>Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the college, division, and programs </li><li>Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>A current Bartending/mixology certification (e.g., TIPS, SERV Safe Alcohol), and one year of industry-related work experience in brewing, beer service, bartending, mixology, or beverage management</p> <p>OR</p> <p>High School Diploma/GED, two years of industry-related work experience in mixology, bartending, beer service, or hospitality beverage management</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching experience in a community college or university setting. </li><li>A minimum of 3 years of work experience in high-volume or upscale environments (e.g., restaurants, hotels, bars, resorts, event venues) </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <p>Typical classroom, lab, clinical, and/or online learning environment</p>
