<p>Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of light, medium and some heavy equipment related to construction and maintenance of City roads and other City facilities.</p> <ul> <li>Drive and operate truck, snow plow, backhoe, and front end loader in accordance with departmental quality standards and safety procedures </li><li>Operate heavy/light machinery such as Back-hoe, front end loader, road grader, skid steer, sewer vac truck, forestry truck, tractor mower, and street sweeper in accordance with departmental quality standards and safety procedures. </li><li>Perform light maintenance on heavy equipment such as checking tire pressure and tread wear, along with oil and water levels </li><li>Report mechanical issues or malfunctions using daily inspection logs. </li><li>Wear required PPE (Hard hat, gloves, safety boots, eye protection etc.) </li><li>Assist in the repair and maintenance of asphalt roads, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drains, and sewer systems. </li><li>Remove snow and ice from streets, parking lots, and other public and City facilities. </li><li>Paint and perform janitorial cleaning, simple carpentry, masonry and concrete work </li><li>Participate in seminars and meetings as requested by the Street and Park Superintendent and/or the Director of Public Works/Engineer </li><li>Read basic maps, charts and plans </li><li>Perform basic math functions </li><li>Various other duties as may be assigned by the Street and Park Superintendent </li><li>On-Call/Stand-by availability for emergencies and snow removal operations. </li><li>May require overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays. </li><li>Requires a high school diploma or equivalent </li><li>Requires minimum of two years experience operating heavy equipment, but 5+ years is highly desirable </li><li>Requires valid Wisconsin driver's license with a CDL and a good driving record </li><li>Knowledge of equipment operations and construction and maintenance procedures. </li><li>Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. </li><li>Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to utilize the metric and English systems of measurement. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, City employees and the general public. </li><li>On-Call/Stand-by availability for emergencies and snow removal operations. </li><li>May require overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.</p> <p>The employee must be available and present for work as scheduled. The employee must perform all functions of the job safely and efficiently at all times in compliance with all safety regulations and policies for the safety and welfare of the employee, co-workers, and the public.</p>
