<p>Job Description</p> <p>The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a caring, compassionate, and dependable paraprofessional to join our early elementary team. The successful candidate will work closely with the classroom teacher and/or special educator to provide instructional support and encouragement to students individually and in small groups. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the academic and personal growth of our young learners in a nurturing and collaborative school environment.</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide supervision and support to students throughout the school day including passing periods, lunch, recess, etc </li><li>Maintain a safe environment on the playground, observing students and scaffolding playground skills </li><li>Support students' ability to follow the classroom routine and assist with student engagement during large and small group instruction </li><li>Provide positive and supportive learning experience for the students; and set and maintain consistent and constructive limits </li><li>Provide instructional services under the direction of teachers and special educators, providing one on one or small group instruction </li><li>Support young children's social problem solving skills and behavior regulation throughout the school day </li><li>Thorough knowledge and competent implementation of student educational programs, behavior management guidelines, and individual health plans </li><li>Work with teachers and specialists to learn instructional/educational strategies as well as discuss student program and needs </li><li>Support in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans, classroom management systems, and reinforcement systems </li><li>Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information </li><li>Actively participating in professional development opportunities, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives to continuously improve teaching practices and contribute to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning </li><li>Performing other duties as directed by school leadership </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions and Physical Effort</p> <ul> <li>Work is typically performed indoors in the school facility and offsite at field trips </li><li>Moderate physical movement is required for the job </li><li>The noise level in this work environment varies from quiet to very loud </li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to stand, walk, sit, run, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, balance, crouch, talk, hear, smell and see </li><li>The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment </li><li>Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills </li><li>Ability to modify instructions and provide prompts or redirection as needed. </li><li>Ability to work with students with disabilities </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students and colleagues </li><li>Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of students and the school community </li><li>Bachelor's degree </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with young children in a classroom or educational setting </li><li>Completion of first aid and CPR training </li></ul> <p>Reports To</p> <p>The Special Education Paraprofessional will report to the school building principal.</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <ul> <li>The Public Schools of Brookline is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching or practice to the diversity and excellence of the PSB community. </li><li>The Public Schools of Brookline is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
