<p>General Statement of Duties</p> <p>This employee performs a variety of technical laboratory tests and other procedures, and records and processes test results as appropriate. Employee ensures quality assurance and quality control within the laboratory; ensures adherence to established policies and procedures; and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Performs related duties as required.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)</p> <p>(Illustrative only. Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.)</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <p>Basic qualitative and quantitative analytical chemistry decision making process.</p> <p>Basic inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, microbiology, and biochemistry.</p> <p>Clinical laboratory specialties including chemistry, microbiology, serology, and hematology.</p> <p>Basic principles of instrumental analysis including chromatography and spectrometry.</p> <p>Scientific statistics.</p> <p>Environmental chemistry and microbiology.</p> <p>Safety policies and procedures, e.g., Employee Safety Instruction Manual, and applicable agency requirements.</p> <p>English usage and specific terminology appropriate to position and program.</p> <p>Computer applications for data entry and instrument operations.</p> <p>Skill to:</p> <p>Operate complex analytical instrumentation.</p> <p>Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software.</p> <p>Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty.</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Identify problems.</p> <p>Listen attentively.</p> <p>Follow written and oral instructions.</p> <p>Establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers.</p> <p>Solve analytical chemical problems.</p> <p>Make timely logical decisions.</p> <p>Identify subtle changes in instrument performance which indicate problems.</p> <p>Assist in supervising laboratory technicians and assistants.</p> <p>Perform basic qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses.</p> <p>Perform chemical calculations.</p> <p>Perform basic microbiological procedures.</p> <p>Interpret and evaluate information received from others.</p> <p>Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.</p> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <p>Each applicant must have Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, environmental science, chemical or environmental engineering, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, scientific statistics, or a science discipline.</p> <p>OTHER REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>May be required to have a valid Ohio Driver's License.</p> <p>Must be an excellent communicator and team builder.</p> <p>Positions in the Water Works Department: Must possess (or obtain) and maintain a Class II Water Treatment Professional Operator Certification by the completion of the probationary period.</p> <p>Positions at the Metropolitan Sewer District: Must possess (or obtain) and maintain a Class 2 Ohio Wastewater Laboratory Analyst certification within one (1) year of reaching the Ohio Water Environmental Association qualifying experience level.</p> <p>Working and Physical Conditions</p> <p>Environmental Conditions: Laboratory environment; exposure to computer screens; exposure to industrial waste and toxic chemicals, fumes and solvents.</p> <p>Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; light and moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required; ability to distinguish colors required; must be able to operate assigned vehicle, as assigned.</p> <p>Jeseca Norman, Jeseca.Norman@gcww.cincinnati-oh.gov</p>
